I saw all these statements zip by in some fashion or another. Not aimed at me, just screeched into the void. Exactly why am I supposed to engage here? To find stimulating debates? Interesting viewpoints? Might just be the day but holy shit my timeline is toxic right now. Everyone knows EXACTLY how the world works, EXACTLY what others who's situations aren't known should do or shouldn't do, how every single person ever should behave and fuck you if you're not conforming. Now where have I seen that mentality before... 🤔🤔🤔 Don't even try coming at me about tone policing. I, do, not, care.

And before people come down on me for missing the point, I'm not. Yes, the glasses CAN absolutely be used for peeping tom action, and yes, they are stupid convenient for that. That they ARE being used for peeping tom actions is because people as a whole suck, and the solution to that is to make people suck less. I also know some shady marketing re: it being an accessibility tool happened. I wouldn't agree that marketing is sound, but it DOES genuinely take away a crazy amount of barriers for quite a few people. A tool can be an accessibility aid, a no-not-quite-that-much-of-an-accessibility-aid, and a peeping tom tool all at once. I don't have numbers on which one is the truest. But making the pervert tool disappear also means killing off a tool that improved peoples' independence. So ... yay yay celebrate, I guess?

@linguacelta@toot.wales They are an extremely telling linguistical phenomenon... blind in such idioms often seems to be essentially a complete lack of sensory input of any kind, which in turn seems to highlight just how central one's sense of sight is and how one's life would immediately be over if one were to lose it. Meanwhile, as I'm sure you know, there's plenty of blind people who live fulfilling lives, although I won't discount that there's also a huge amount that are struggling, be it minorly or catastrophically. I have a harder time seeing, pun partially intended, the issue with "deaf to oppressed voices". Deaf would seem to mean unable to hear said voices, is the ablist angle that it is used here as something one can selectively "turn off and on" as it were? Selectively deaf?

For those who missed it, the secret lil project was an #accessibility helper for the game Disgaea 5: alliance of vengeance that was demoed on stream. Still loads of work to do, but already in a pretty decent state. Test builds will be going up on Patreon soon.

As of late I've seen Android Talkback just ... lock up. Can't swipe, can't properly lock/unlock, it just ...hangs. Usually it fixes itself after just leaving it be for a few minutes but ... is that just me? Did I bork my phone or did Google bork Talkback?

@menelion@dragonscave.space @matt@toot.cafe as someone who actually knows how to do this already i'd say it's really just the overwhelming amount of broken that stops me from hand-making everything. The code an AI spits out is generally pretty awful quality-wise, and you do have to run around the watercooler with it a few times now and again, but particularly for static tooling that doesn't change, the speed it creates fixes with is difficult to beat

Bluesky honestly has been up in arms about the Meta glasses for weeks now. One of the pro arguments is always "blind people use them". One of the counter arguments is "they are pervert glasses that let you secretly record people". Maybe I'm just too well adjusted to follow this mindset but explain this to me. How is this any worse than holding a phone in front of your face, like a huge amount of people do these days? Compared to phones:

• Meta glasses let you only record a few minutes at a time;
• You can't actually see what you're recording until after with the non-display glasses at least;
• You look hella conspicuous wearing these things in a place you probably shouldn't be wearing them like a bathroom;

Isn't a phone with a proper viewfinder a way better perving device?

The one "computer use"-ish tool I currently have experience with, Guide, has a really hard time figuring out when a screenshot it takes has been scaled up/down (the tool seems to do something with the screenshots resolution), causing particularly drags to fail more often than they succeed. Are you seeing that in this project as well?

ahh and the first comment is from a lead technical recruiter from Australia, who works for a renowned US-based contracting agency and asks me to send my resume to a gMail account with a different name on it for a "confidential review". Of course the shortlist is being made RIGHT NOW, and when I look at the profile the supposed lead recruiter has 0 followers and is spamming similar comments on random people's posts all within the last half an hour. Very legit-looking stuff here, I almost fell for it.

And if those same people then turn around and wonder why nobody wants to move from corporate-solution-here to FLOSS-solution-here when this is what they have to look forward to I don't even see the point in trying to make it make sense, you're beyond any kind of reasonable discourse at that point

The lichess tutorial fixes are finally receiving some love from their team, so hopefully that will be accessible soon although they really are very much the basic of basics

@sjtaylor@tweesecake.social overall works pretty well :) I do notice that Spotify Connect seems to struggle enumerating SPotify connect devices that aren't local, e.g., I see my computer and the Blindspot client, but not the various Sonos devices in this house which the official client does see. That may have something to do with the fact only the logged in user can see those devices, looking at the logs querying the spotify API for connect devices currently doesn't send any kind of auth params along
