I was playing Mechwarrior 5 last night with some friends. I spotted some Chargers, checked the loadout, and told my buddies "they're not crap Chargers they have ac/20s".

No sooner did I say that, but one of the characters radio'd a message warning that these are new and improved Chargers with big guns instead of small lasers. Lol.

Anyway, 3xPPC to the centre torso took care of them before they got in range. Quite enjoying the MAD-3D, I should use it more often!

Eugh!

I had just fallen asleep on my back. I couldn't breathe properly, but sleep paralysis prevented me from moving properly. I had to carefully breathe with my stomach, trying to move any of my limbs, to break the hold and roll into my side. I thought I was going to suffocate!

This after a little patch of insomnia, while my brain tried to tell me everything wrong with my life and expected me to fix it all then and there.

Cool, good, great. About 5:45 total shuteye. Very auspicious start to the day!

Well, at least it's a short week, due to the Feast of St Sportsball tomorrow!...

MotherFUCKER! Android has force updated a bunch of my apps! I deliberately stay on old versions because new ones inevitably get enshitified or break. Fuck me! I was just thinking last night that I ought to look into changing to a non-stock OS over Google locking down the platform, but this is just too much

Another colleague asked me for my views. He basically agreed with me, but worries he'll be left behind if he doesn't use it (even though he agrees that even if it produces working code, it will be garbage in structure and unmaintainable, and maintenance is by far most of what we actually do in software engineering, not developing new code). I commented that I'm actually an extremely stubborn person. I've got hard moral lines that I will not cross, consequences be damned. I'm like this about lots of aspects of my life. Looking back, I've got really, really practiced at boycotting things I consider unethical to the point where it's second nature. So, I explained, *even if the fucking thing turns out to be necessary, I'm still not going to use it!*. He liked that, and said to stay strong. It might be wishful thinking, (it's probably wishful thinking) but I do believe that sooner or later the consequences of the shit code will come back to bite us, and we'll turf the whole endeavour. Hopefully sooner. Our problem isn't that we need to produce more shitty code faster, we need to produce better code. And the thing fundamentally cannot do that, because it's just a statistical autocomplete for what symbols look like they should go in the right place; it can't actually reason the logic of a problem. The hell with it. #LLMs #AI #GrandTheftAutocomplete

So, apparently, "job efficiency" is indeed a direct percentage plus to the input and output of a job, per pop. It is not a percentage increase to the number of pops who can work a job, as the random Steam thread I found would suggest. So, I went and removed all the pop increases I'd put in and moved them to the relevant income/expendidures. I think. The numbers aren't what I think they ought to be, but that could just be my poor maths. I would have thought that 100 artisans working 10% better should produce the same amount of trade goods and use the same amount of minerals as 110 normal artisans, but the numbers aren't quite lining up. And spreadsheets are a pig to debug. I did put in district specialisations properly, since solar farm specialisation in an energy district adds farmers instead of more technicians. Then I started to finally look at buildings, and despaired. That's going to be such an enormous pain in the backside! They each have their own upkeep, and they either add to number of jobs or they add to the production of a job or they modify the upkeep or the efficiency!... I started to just add fudge factor columns, instead of a column per building, but that's almost as complicated. This project is definitely one of those "oh, that shouldn't be hard, it'll take two seconds" things that absolutely is not, in actual practice 😅 #Stellaris

Went to buy some music off Bandcamp. It let me buy some of it, but then redirected me to PayPal to buy the rest. And that's not fucken happening.

I thought the Australian container affairs guys managed to get everyone to outlaw that sort of thing? Or, at least, they stopped ebay from forcing everyone to use PayPal and accept alternate payment methods...

@kauer The thing is, if I've got my total Metallurgists in column AH, artisans in AI, soldiers in AJ and so on, and I have each colony on a row, I want to calculate alloy production for the colony as (eg) =(AH4/100)*+3 I can name AH as "Metallurgists", but for the colony in row 4 I can't put in =(Metallurgists4/100)*+3 , it doesn't accept that. Metallurgists[4] doesn't work either.

On the bright side, the advantage of Spiritual ethic is priests, which generate Unity from Consumer Goods. And Unity is what you expend to change government ethics. So, with a bit of a waste of consumer goods, it's a self-correcting problem

@reverseics nothing in the bill of materials either. Just GPS, compass and barometer. You don't shoot down aircraft with that, at least not any moreso than, like, an unguided RPG-7 vs a helicopter.
