If you've never seen the Brio train with little ultrasonic water mister then here it is. It's delightful.
I'm back from Leeds. It seemed nice. Yesterday was exhausting. The work thing finished early at around 1pm, but my train wasn't until just after 5pm. This gave me 4 hours of waiting-not-waiting for the train in a state of feeling pretty anxious and not knowing what to do with myself.
Side project announcement: I'm parking my current side project and may return to it one day.
You don't need to know what it was. I just need to say out loud that I need to move on from it. I hadn't actually started it, but without 'officially' saying that I'm not working on it, my mind is almost continuously occupied with it... Even if I'm not doing it. Is any of this making sense?
Anyway, I'm hoping this will free me up to consider other side projects that I might actually make progress on.

Does anyone know if there's a calendar anywhere for upcoming #RetroComputing and #RetroGaming events in the UK? I'd love to get to more stuff, but I always seem to find out on the date things are happening.

Huh, Wikipedia lists Rise of the Triad as using a modified Wolfenstein 3D engine. I always thought it was an early Build engine game

My Resident Evil 2 collection is well documented which probably wins for me.
I guess I've bought Doom 5 times, and idk how many iterations of Street Fighter 2, but maybe the different editions don't count.

Was actually raining a little as I walked to the station this morning. It was nice. Didn't last long enough though which was probably a good thing as I didn't have a coat and risked smelling like wet Donkey by the time I got to the office
Don't know if I've mentioned this before, but the borderlands games won't let me use my name because it contains a banned word.... But I can pick assassin as a class and that has TWO 'ass'es in it... Holding users to unreasonable double standards
I've been replying Duke3D on Switch, and id completely forgotten how often it just spawns enemies in behind you. Idk, I think I prefer the monster closets of Doom. At least it makes sense where they came from.
I've backed Duke loads of times into areas that I just cleared out only to be shot in the back by recently spawned enemies.
... also those exploding drone enemies suck
But yknow, I'm having fun
For #VGMWednesday I'm going to ramp up those anxiety levels and hit you with some of the Undercaves music from ECCO the Dolphin.

I have to go to Leeds on Monday and Tuesday for a work thing. I won't have much spare time, but is there anything I need to see whilst I'm there? I've never been to Leeds.
IDK, whenever I see posts about the #3DS, everyone is talking about the game library, or streetpass, or some other quirky feature and I'm all like..."you know it was 3D too right?? I mean, actual, glassesless 3-frickinD?? Right there... Tiny tiny Ryu throwing cute fireballs that hovered across the screen Infront of you??" So do people not like the 3D of the 3DS? So, I have my PSP fully charged and Donnie Darko, the Resident Evil Movie, or Labyrinth on UMD... My UMD library isn't extensive, but if I balance it over there it'll be just like we're at the cinema. Only really far away.

It's been a while since I've really used my 3DS, but I'm pretty sure I had it on for everything I played.😅 I never played Starfox unfortunately, but I imagine it looked really cool

@joel in also like how much thought has gone into making it a good portable game. Like, you can't sit down and play for a long session and progress the plot, or just drop in for a short mission and it still works.

And I know there will be people arguing "wELl wE haVe aI noW, So I DoNt nEed to bE abLe to DO tHaT"... But reading an ai generated summary is not the same as reading and understanding the source yourself AND condensing out the relevant information. Relevant information in scientific papers is sooooo often in detail and context (both of the reader and the author)

@tsturm yeah, just thought I could edit the program binary so that it's in the 'running state' so I'm limited to a single line of basic as the USR command.
More curious really about what in the system variables determines if the program is being run, or just edited. 🤔

@tsturm it must be something like that. I've tried poking the 'current line' with a value and it didn't work. There is a mysterious flags variable in the system variables and I have a hunch that it's set there, but I can't find any information about it.

@etchedpixels yeah, I knew there would be at least one line of Basic for a USR, but thought I might be able to not do the saving line etc.
More, I was just interested in what is actually saved that indicates that a basic program should be running, rather than just loaded.
I guess I could write a simpler program,c then look at the .p files saved both ways and see if I could spot the difference. 🤔
