I mean, find me a single American tech organisation that isn’t full of right wing libertarians.
That’s the secret lurking in open source - it’s actually a weird combo of gun-toting anti-government survivalists and radical progressives* who have managed for years to share some similar goals because politics wasn’t mentioned. But then software ate the world; software is politics, and vice versa.
- (I’m in the second camp, I’m sure the first camp would use different words for me.)

With the Rails 8.2 release (probably) imminent, work is about to ramp up on @mosscap@ruby.social, the fork we've been laying the groundwork for.
If you want to reduce the impact of the "weird guys" on Rails, Ruby and OSS in general, we need your help!
This is ESPECIALLY true if you're a member of a community marginalized by the far-right rhetoric that comes from Rails' founder. This fork can't be led by the usual white male voices (e.g. me), we need *much* more diverse leadership.

I am ashamed of the fact that I’m stuck on #Rails because of the sunk costs of what I’ve already built, as are *so many* other project like Mastodon.
We cannot “just move”, the cost is enormous.
The Rails core team seem utterly compromised and under his spell. Nobody will speak out.
We need a hard #RailsFork. Now. And we need to coordinate to do it together and build a team.

This morning I've had three "hey I'd like to work on this" comments on various GitHub issues. Nowadays I have to waste my time looking at the accounts to make sure they're not LLMs or people wanting to use LLMs, and all those 3 were.
One was out and out pretending to be a human; two were doing some AI programming course (CodePath AI301?) and had decided that picking an issue from a project that explicitly disallows LLM contributions would be a good idea.
Fuck *all* of this shit.

Incredible scenes: had a takedown demand from a large unnamed miniature company for a model I remixed and published on Thingiverse.
- It only uses CC-BY sources
- it’s a proxy for a unit that does not have a purchasable model
- it looks completely different from anything they ever made
I think this is purely because it uses one of their trademarked words in the description and tag, and it’s been caught by some script.
