@henk@waag.social I don't see how you can prevent that. Arduino was a concept created by 4 people. At a certain point they decided they were fine with selling it. And they did. They owned the concept and sold it. The only people who could have safe guarded the "open-hardware ethos" were the creators. The only way to "future-proof models for open-source hardware" is to forbid inventors from selling their inventions. Does that sound like a legitimate option and something that will encourage creativity?

@notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com I'm not an electrical engineer, but it seems to me that the concept of base load is useful because, at least for now, we don't have enough yearly renewal production to cover the consumption needs. But we also need better ways of using excess production. Two of them are storage and hydrogen production. It would probably make businesses sense for renewable power plants to invest in plugging storage or hydrogen production solutions to their operations.

In Portugal, only one third of the power bill results from consumption. The remainder is the power availability and grid access costs. Even if I was to remove consumption for most of the year, I would still have to pay two thirds of the bill for the whole year. So the monthly savings would be fairly small. It could take upwards of 15 years to offset the investment.

@largo @Skye @eunews not to mention that the US now passed legislation which states that US companies have to provide any data required by government agencies wherever it is. Which is just what China has been accused of doing with Chinese companies operating in Europe. So even that difference has been erased. Because I trust as much this US administration as I trust the Chinese government.

I have 5 solar panels and I've completely recovered that investment in less than two years because they were subsidised.They would cover half my daily needs if I could use all the production. So I've considered buying batteries, but there's no way I can recover that investment in a reasonable timeframe. At least not with the current electricity cost, which is very low.

Estava a pensar que, tirando um inconveniente ou outro, viver com um simbionte como o Venom seria extremamente práctico. Para começar deixava de se gastar dinheiro em roupa. O simbio mudaria de aparência conforme as necessidades. E imaginem só uma ida à casa de banho. O simbio exporia as partes necessárias e provavelmente nem seria necessário limpar o rabo. Ficava tudo tratado. Banho também seria opcional, embora eu precise de um duche para arrancar o dia.
