Yes yes, okay, one more post in this series. As the "About Search & Privacy" document linked in the settings says, you can disable the location collection just for the search thingamajig.
Also, the data does not have a unique identifier per se, it rotates every 15 minutes, _but_ Apple doesn't say anything about deleting the data at some point. :D

this was shot with a camera that is as old as the train itself (a Canon A-1 from the 70s). I miss these old carriages, they're really rare now.
The film I used was Silbersalz 500T!
the calDAV and cardDAV integrations in macOS and iOS are pretty good, as in, they're very reliable, but at the same time their implementation is super dumb.
My phone and notebook know the login information for my DAV server, of course. It doesn't stop them from trying to do everything without a valid login first, tho.
Every successful request is preceded by an unsuccessful request where it tries to login as an anonymous user. what. how. why. why is it so dumb lol

@davebloggt@toot.kif.rocks ich finde das gar nicht mal so schlimm, da das meiner Meinung nach zeigt, dass wir so engagiert mit dem Event waren, dass es einfach keine Zeit für Fotos gab - aber die Erinnerungen im Kopf bleiben :>

@SteffoSpieler I mean, you have to do this if you want autocomplete for web searches. If this would be a field exclusively for web searches, I'd be fine with that. But the home screen search throws local data and web searches together and that's really bad in this case. I still can't get over how it actually sends your accurate geolocation every request.

@jm_rtr Wenn es dir um Datensparsamkeit geht, bist du bei Apple tatsächlich wirklich falsch. Selbst mit allen möglichen Einstellungen, die es in der Kategorie "Tracking abschalten und verhindern" gibt, telefonieren die Geräte sehr fröhlich nach Hause. 🔥

the main reason for the massive heatsink is that it's supposed to be put into junction boxes and switching cabinets, which can get super hot when the sun is burning down on them

@chris Thank you! I added a clarification post and updated the initial posts. I just have to correct you in one point, the data isn't encrypted. It can't be, because if it was, they wouldn't be able to send the queries to search providers to get their recommendations / completions in return. It's just the transport that's encrypted, but this should be the bare minimum anyways.

@mast0d0nphan the keyboard doesn't matter because the requests that are sent are part of the search feature in the search bar on the home screen. you can either turn of location access for this specific feature to prevent it from including your geolocation, or disable the web search suggestions feature altogether. This happens in your browser as well, if you have suggestions turned on there. You need to disable these as well, if you don't want that.
