Kind of defeats the pan-european ethos if you have people from some countries and not others and wasn't that the whole point of the original design anyway.

@EUCommission As an EU citizen, and coming from Eastern Europe, I find it hard to find any sympathy for the English after all the vitriol and contempt they've treated us with. I don't welcome these news. The UK wants to be an island unto its own. Let them.

@bildoperationen@tldr.nettime.org while I understand where you're coming from, that's a missapplied analogy no? AI news images are at best missimformation because of the expectations. Photos are associated with reality. If smth is a news event, people expect real pictures. Besides, if smth is a painting or a cartoon it's also immediately recognizable as painting or cartoon. Or if it's a semi-realistic render, it might have a label *artist's impression*

@Skye @eunews 😂😂😂 riight because that's not the case at all for US tech and infrastructure that we use. At least China hasn't locked some of us out of using their tech yet, unlike the US. I second that on the hiking point. I use mapy.cz for that.

However I still struggle to find a good alternative for Google Maps on the whole, try as I may, and trust me, I do. It's just too integrated and useful.

OSM and its derivatives are great for certain applications but lack:

• public transit route planning
• business search, opening hours
• restaurant lookup with filters
• reviews
• photos
• streetview

But I've come across multiple academic texts which I deem to have more weight than news articles. Still mostly written by western authors admittedly - because I search in English. But anyway the general vibe is that China is following this global reactionary trend of 'returning to tradition'. Or is it not

It's also true the loudest people about Ukraine do not fight in Ukraine and will happily let the war go on forever, so they invoke notions such as war of survival, putin is the new hitler, ukrainians are dying to defend us.. i mean if you believe that so strongly why don't you go fight the war yourself

@stux@mstdn.social The root of the problem are not the companies. The root of the problem is as you alluded to the system - who owns the platforms and the means of social interaction (hint hint). The solution is therefore re-writing corporate law. Socialize social media.

I've read that Xi Jinping thought aims to bring together Marx and Confucious. How that's supposed to work, I have no clue. They seem fundamtally opposed to me. This direction seems concerning.
