@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social#ALT4you A take on MC Escher's artwork "Drawing Hands". In the original, two hands, one right, one left, come to life from the paper on which they are drawn, to draw each other. In this variation, one of the hands is human and drawing the other, whereas the other hand is robotic and holding the other end of the pencil to erase the human hand.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Also I was alarmed that some of the strawberries actually had fingers until I realised the seller is simply holding these things in their hands... I'm ok now.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social @bertman1959@mastodon.social Incidentally I saw this article recently where makers of EV commercial trucks are now also making electric refrigeration units for EV reefer trucks, which is pretty neat. https://electrek.co/2024/06/05/greenpower-electric-refrigerated-delivery-truck/

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Also #ALT4you A shrink-wrapped toy is hanging on a peg in a store. It is labeled Doctor Play Set, Ages 3+, and consists of various doctor bits like a toy stethoscope, some toy pills, etc, AND A SHOTGUN.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social#ALT4you Caption: I'm not coming to work today, I'm at the hospital getting an MRI Boss: I don't believe you, send me a picture The picture: A man in red gym shorts is lying on a somewhat medically-looking table with a white cloth, and his head is indeed in a machine with a round hole, but on closer inspection the machine is a front-loading washing machine (or dryer), and the chair and window in the background further stretch the truth

@AlexCorby@indieauthors.social @MugsysRapSheet@mastodon.social @VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Writing aside, I think Mel Blank's contribution to the art cannot be understated. To this day, sometimes when I see a Ford Maverick truck with the name on the tailgate, I break out into Yosemite Sam as the oil baron going past Bugs Bunny's warren, and placing a long distance call to his driver at the other end of an incredibly long limousine: "Maverick?? Maverick!! Stop the car, Maverick! There's a hole upon ah my property that ain't a-gushin oil!"

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Also #ALT4you Monk 1 "can you highlight the text you would like me to focus on?" Monk 2 "in any particular way?" Monk 1 "surprise me" And there follows a mosaic of text samples from what appear to be medieval sacred texts, each with various doodles pointing to various bits of text, including hands with pointy fingers, one hand with improbably bizarre fingers, and finally one fallus in, um, a butter dish? pointing to a paragraph or other.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social Twenty years from now they'll be watching a movie where someone counts in the air and utters "carry the one" ironically...

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social I have so many questions. And yet, it is of a beautiful simplicity... @VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social #ALT4you When my boyfriend and I moved in together, we each had a cat. Normally, mine sits with me and his sits with him. But tonight we are sitting in each other's chairs, and also with each other's cat. It turns out the cats are attached to the spots they sit in, _not us_

@grammargirl@zirk.us I think of this as the nines imbalance. In a datacenter there is talk of nines of uptime. Going from two nines (99%) uptime to three nines (99.9%) requires an order of magnitude investment. Another again for four nines (99.99%). The AI nines imbalance is that It is one nine accurate (90%) but four nines eloquent (99.99%)

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social @bertman1959@mastodon.social Road going ice cream trucks are refrigerated. You might be thinking of the sidewalk bicycle ice cream vendors, but even they use dry ice to keep the ice cream cold and that stuff lasts for most of the day in the sunshine when ice cream is most in demand. https://www.commercialtrucktrader.com/blog/2025/07/18/how-ice-cream-and-reefer-trucks-work/

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange Wow I had no idea modular construction had been done on such a scale in Europe. It reminded me of the Tokyo Capsule Tower demolition. Built in 1972 it had always been intended for the modules to be replaceable and replaced over time but that never happened and eventually the entire tower became irreparable. I think some of the modules were kept for a museum or hopefully repurposed. https://youtu.be/T886pUd3vQU
