Turned out to be quite the day off. Somewhat unexpectedly we had a cruise ship. Leah’s cousin was one of the cultural interpreters on board and convinced the captain to make Arctic Bay a stop. So this morning we wee invited out to the boat with the cultural performers and others and had lunch.
In the afternoon we took Leah’s cousin, the captain, the other cultural interpreter, and three other crew/expedition staff out to the cabin.
We at maktaaq and bannock, drank tea, and visited. Late getting back because we were enjoying ourselves, but the ship wouldn’t leave without the captain.
Turns out the captain is the cousin of a friend who over wintered here in their sailboat a few years back. #Nunavut

And who in the hell was it that decided that such a deliciously complex and delightful flavour as vanilla was to be a synonym for ordinary?

Most of our flowering plants colonized the north Baffin after the last ice age. As the ice retreated the plants followed it north. But three of our flowers survived the ice age here and reestablished populations. They are Vaux’s Cinquefoil, Pallas Wallflower, and this beauty, Silvery Oxytrope. One of the best places to find it is at our cabin. #Nunavut #CabinLife #Wildflowers

Thought I was done caring about soccer after the Canada loss. But now I need Belgium to win their match against the US. How do you say “Go Belgium Go” in Flemish.

It’s the solstice. Which always brings a twinge of sadness to me, as we begin to tilt away from the Sun. It will still be six weeks until the Sun begins to set, but still…

I got a very nice note from the birding clients, just discovered it tonight.
Not only that but the outfitter shared their feedback of the trip. #ImNotWorthy
"The birding has been great. Clare is one of the best birding guides we’ve even had. Very knowledgeable of birds, habitat, history, culture and geology." #Birding #Nunavut

Well there’s the best reason to lose a semi final.

Has anyone considered the possibility that McConnell is a zombie?
I mean he’s starving because he’s surrounded by Republicans and, well, brains.

So the story is I was out working on the #WorkshopBuild and I need a saw horse. There was one over by the boat with a glass sitting on it filled with red liquid. Now both my son and son-in-law have a habit of just leaving anything thing that was in their hands where ever they set it down. The liquid was the exact same colour as the koolaid the family keeps making. I grabbed the cup to get the sawhorse, looked at it and thought “thanks boys”. I was thirsty as it is hot, dusty, and well carpentry, so I took a swig. Turns out they had been working on the boat’s hydraulic steering.
It did not get down my gullet.
