Our rain water tank has a bird's bath underneath the tap because it leaks. This issue has become an important feature. The constant slow dripping of the tap supplies the bird's bath with fresh water. As a result birds, mostly house sparrows, use it as their drinking spot. It is quite literally their water cooler / coffee corner & you can see them chatting, eating & gossiping around it. It's a lovely thing to observe & great to start the morning with.

Very inspiring to see bacteria in mud producing electricity. Enough to power an AtTiny85 MCU, or a small clock. Great for powering kinetic art, sensors, tiny lights & to reflect on energy use.

Verdrietig nieuws.

Karin Spaink is overleden. Een held van het eerste uur die zich inzette voor mensenrechten off- en online. Ze was voor mij een inspirerend voorbeeld. Met name in hoe ze haar visie & ideeën wist te koppelen aan concrete acties in de praktijk. Veel sterkte gewenst aan haar naasten met het verlies.

Deze middag weer een klein stapje verder gewerkt aan de Doeidag website op basis van Zola. Is het af? Nee, nog lang niet. Is het bruikbaar? Ja. Na de meivakantie gaan we er verder aan sleutelen.

Ben heel blij met de eerste recepten van @elmine@deepthought.infullflow.net en de illustratie van @astridpoot@mastodon.social. Fijn ook dat we een Nextcloud hebben om teksten te delen, en een plekje op een server, dankjewel @rolf.

Thinking about repurposing old phones as servers. Would it be possible to add an extremely low power pcb which switches USB power on/of? So by discharging them regularly the OG phone batteries keep on working safely? This would allow phones to charge during the day on solar & using the battery at night.

Her arguments for more feminism in computing are hugely resonant with me. Which some might find weird as I am a man..

Educated as an Interaction Designer, I always felt out of place in "hardcore" programming circles or most IT work places because programming was not my goal. My goal was to use programming to solve people problems. Programming was just the means to do so.

Het is ook 1e Paasdag, een mooi moment om een eitje te breken voor meer digitale onafhankelijkheid bij het Paasontbijt, de brunch of tijdens het paaseitjes verstoppen. Bijvoorbeeld over het mobiele telefoon duopolie van Apple & Google. Veel alternatieven, bouwen voort op Android, maar kende je deze al?
