Hive Mind: Looking for a sci-fi book read in the mid-'60s. Takes place in a moon colony run by a large corporation. Murders are happening & no one can find the murderer. A detective is brought up from Earth to assist. He is blind & has a "birth defect" that allows him to see people as strange, colorful geometric objects, which leads to the answer. Need author & title. #SciFi#Books#Reading#FindABook#ScienceFiction *Please Boost*

@tend2wobble@toad.social Yeah, I know. My hospital stay was denied because I had only come in for a "sore back", which didn't meet the hospitalization criteria. My dude, I came in under excruciating pain caused by at least 7 new FRACTURED vertebrae as the hospital's MRI indicated. Come closer, I'll show you a "sore back". #AI

Seeing video/pictures of the tornado damages in NE Wisconsin? I'm one of the lucky ones. It was just three blocks away; had it veered east instead of west, my house would be gone. So very much damage around us and thankfully, no reported injuries or deaths. That's amazing to me. My neighbor's grandmother's house is completely gone, but she is okay. How do you pick up and start all over again? I hope you and I never have to find out.

@emilymbender My doc did say she was going to use it, but I said no. She said it's easier for her. I said no. She no longer brings the thing in the room. My cardiologist, however, just put the device on the desk & I said no. He started to hem & haw, reached to turn it on, then said it wasn't working. I talked about lots of things, and how it felt like I had a basketball in my gut. The summary "he" wrote said that I play basketball for exercise. I'm 71 with health issues. He lied.

This wouldn't blow my skirt up, but my daughter & her spouse were just dining next to David Byrne (Talking Heads) at a restaurant in Copenhagen. Last year they ran into Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins) in a Paris restaurant. #Celebrities#FamousMusicians

@lydialurch @inthehands @ShiitakeToast @lisamelton For me, it's when people use "it's" to show possession. Drives me up the flippin' wall. Or, even worse, its'... argggghhh! The word "it" NEVER takes an apostrophe unless one means "it is" (or in some cases for "it has", as in "it's been done before").

@lisamelton Oh, hell yeah. I saw how all that went with my friend, M, who is right at this moment on her way across the country to have the top done. She had her priorities and bottom was first. The sheer amount of prep ... the research for all of it. Then you add all the crap you have to put up with from ignoramouses. For this trip, M bought a tracking service so that another friend and I will be notified if she doesn't check in; the danger is real and that fucking sucks.

@mountainwitch@kolektiva.social Congrats, grandma; granding is the best. I've always looked to the Canadian health care system as the blueprint for the future in other countries, especially here in the US. Sadly, I'll never see the day (if it ever comes). It's downright frightening to see so many in Canada & GB working to dismantle it. I hope your populace prevents that from happening.

@LJ Were they large wood ticks? If so, they don't cause Lyme, just the teeny, tiny black-legged (aka deer) ticks, spread by the white-footed mouse. The adults are no bigger than a sesame seed & the nymphal ticks about the size of a poppy seed. Wood ticks, of course, carry other diseases. Precautions for deer ticks is the same as for wood ticks, except they're harder to spot once on you. The "bullseye" rash from a deer tick bite won't necessarily appear. Yes, I've been a victim of Lyme. No fun.
