@Bette@mstdn.social I doubt this is what you are remembering but "The Blind Geometer" had a blind person, a mathematician, solve some sort of crime. It is a great read but is from 1986 and also not on the moon. I read it in a cool double novel format where from one side the book was the Blind Geometer and from the other side it was a Le Guin novel.

@codinghorror @bms48 change incentives to be for long term not quarterly. Give people doing work more autonomy to set their own standards. Possibly UBI will enable this shift in perspective from eeking out a paycheck to professional/citizen/human responsibility/opportunity.

@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange as someone that was sexually abused to the point I expected to die as a five year old, I can assure you that our culture in general has an amazing capacity to just pretend like the ordinary brutalizing of women and children, as common as all the jokes about bad uncles, just are the sort of thing you shrug your shoulders about. Even having personally experienced it, I could barely feel the horror myself; only post therapy victims really can tolerate being aware of the amount of suffering that children are subjected to over and over again for so long, so many generations of societies not stopping and excluding the abusers. All that diffuse fear that lands in demonizing others, the ethnic minorities, the immigrant, the differently abled or differently minded or differently gendered, all that fear I find is just the reflected horror from the abuse, ubiquitous and historically semi-hidden - (understood to exist but never talked about), the abuse warping so many lives, reducing our group ability to joyfully create, share and nurture. A common, ordinary horror, which to perceive the reality of transforms one’s view of history and humanity, and, at least for me, makes the cause of kindness and healing, listening and binding, a cause worth giving one’s life for.
