Heureux dimanche ! #art #sculpture #acier #upcycling

Things are heating up for my dreams of a color furnace! My color base batch (raw glass batch without the usual decolorants) arrived and we found a time that Mike could stop by and offer his sage color melting wisdom while I have both of the workstations rented for the weekend. The furnace is getting dialed in and this will be the first time it is getting used! I mixed the color base really well and we split it in half for two melts. I added black nickel oxide, sulfur, pine rosin, Barium Nitrate and red iron oxide to *hopefully turn my color base into a dark amber Sunday my tube puller in Philly, (and myself) have to work- but Monday we will pull tubes out of the color furnace! Soon I will get all the glass out of the existing crucible, flush it with compatible glass, then take that out and begin charging the brown batch! So exciting! #neon #light #residency #art #sculpture #color #brown #glass #NYC #Brooklyn #science #craft #chemistry #DIY #Urbanglass #notes #sketchbook #dreams

Wowza! The nickel, sulfur #brown color pot was amazing! I believe Mike nailed the density I was looking for even with just one dip of #glass sandwiched between two clear dips of glass, its dense enough where the tube looks black without a phosphor backing or light shining through it. The personal dark color pot is also amazing for recycling- I could throw my bits of color in the crack off bin (shedding off the cooling blowpipes) back in the furnace before dinner to have fully melted, streaky swirly glass after dinner! I saved most of the dense brown glass cleaning out the pot at the end of the night as color bars- the typical way we buy it I have another 50 pounds of #color base- and well over a hundred, 5 foot tubes. The lighter tan color tubes have silver in them. Mike mentioned silver nitrate may be needed for those. I wonder how much I would need for 50 pounds and if it would be safe to melt? I pulled a flawless 50 footer today! #residency #neon #tube #Brooklyn #art #sculpture

🧵 13/21 Although my hotel in Stockholm was near the Central Station, and thus convenient for those times I did use public transport, I chose to get to the places I wanted to see by walking, always the best way to see a city. The joy of being amongst others in streets, squares, and gardens, of passing shop windows, signs on buildings telling a little of their history, crowded bars offering "after work" specials, abundant public seating in parks and places over looking the water, doorways, architectural details, public art...I was particularly taken with this fountain in the Östermalm district. It dates from 1921 and the sculptor was Carl Eldh, who also created statuary for the garden of the City Hall. I should sound one cautionary note about getting around in Stockholm. A quick glance at a street map or Google might not be enough to tell you about steep hills and climbs in the city. For example, my visit to the delightful Södermalm district required me to ascend some long and steep flights of steps. Some visitors will need to plan carefully with these relief challenges in mind. #Stockholm #Sweden #Walking #Cityscape #Fountains #CarlEldh #Art #PublicArt #Sculpture #1920s #20thCentury

(Re-uploading to this instance) Brass cast little sculpture of a wood cube showing tunnels carved by a woodworm. Of course the tree was already firewood when I found it, I only cut it into a rough cube. And the woodworm was long gone: Wherever you are, I hope you're OK, it was nice making this collab with you. #MetalCasting #art #ContemporaryArt #sculpture #insect #beetle #abstract #organic #geometric #WoodWorm #carcoma #SciArt #wood #biology #entomology #casting #xylophague #collaboration

Maurizio Cattelan: 'My work has always been serious' — ahead of a major new show bringing Hitler and a pope to Berlin https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2026/sep/03/maurizio-cattelan-art-world-prankster-religion-bananas-hitler He is famed for creating a golden loo that was stolen and a $6m banana that was eaten. But, says the sculptor ahead of a major new show in Germany, there’s more to his work than pranks and… #culture #art #sculpture

Lady of the Water (1995) by Alannah Robins. Since I was a kid and visited the English Lake District regularly with my family, I’ve longed to get back to Grizedale forest to see some of the sculptures there. Given the wet woodland setting, not all of them last forever. Some become unsafe and are removed while others just rot away. This one is an amazing thirty years old. My favourites have always been those that make use of water. Lady of the Water also appeals because (to me) it also asks questions about gender and work and emotional labour - perhaps in ways that ten-year-old me would not have understood. More at this unofficial site: https://grizedale.wixsite.com/sculpture/ban-an-t-ishka Some more thoughts in the alt text. #sculpture #grizedale #gender

And one I had looked for traces of (online and in person) but come a blank until I realised it was known under a different name: Map [or Covering Ground] (1991) by Anna Best It was meant to be an upside down ’cast’ of a hilltop made in wood. I remember visiting this with my family and grandparents as a kid and being taken with how huge it seemed. https://grizedaleforestsculpturepark.wordpress.com/map/ #grizedale #sculpture

Hopped on a cruise ship for the weekend to Belgium. We're docked in Zeebrugge today, somewhere we've been manyntimes when visiting Bruges, Ghent, or Blankenberge. Today, to be different, we took the tram to Knokke for a look around. Warm, windy, one torrential downpour, and lots of art around this seaside town. Currently enjoying a Belgian ale in the sun before we head back to the ship and home tomorrow. #Cruise #Photography #Travel #Belgium #Knokke #KnokkeHeist #Art #Sculpture
