I may have accidentally booped a #NixOS onto a Jelly Star thanks to all the information available on the #postmarketos wiki. What do you think of that, Clippy?

Ported U-Boot with EFI support to the Unihertz Jelly Star tonight, NixOS next. Nix Brick for scale!

It has been devastating to watch AI go from interesting and maybe something I'd like to get into and support the open source aspects of, to a destructive pollutant of mind, planet and soul with trust eroding social consequences. It is so fucking boring and annoying.

I mean the good thing about nix is that it's mainline focused, and not all about hack harvesting (although we do keep quite a collection of hacks) they all are encouraged to be upstreamed. That's why I feel comfy in the pmOS channels and why I feel like I'll vibe more and contribute more significantly with y'all at some point soon ^^

I don't think it's about purity, it's about idiocy.

Yes, the future is something that looks nix-shaped, regardless of the implementation, and I'm all for that!

I basically never feel like I'm "done" or "finished" with my accounts or anything relating to my interactions with HMRC. It's really depressing and mentally difficult for me.

pmaports is not too different from this, they keep track of patches and ultimately intend to upstream them, the difference is just in the implementation/backend (pmbootstrap instead of nix)

Who uses the smbios data? Any link to a particular code snippet that shouldn't be doing that? I'm curious in what cases using the smbios data makes sense, since it doesn't in this case.

It's a really neat idea, I'd be happy to provide space at Birkenhack for events like this too, if that was ever needed.

The last time I investigated this shit show, all I really came up with is https://github.com/ac000/itsa but to use this you have to go through a time consuming (multi year?) back-and-forth signup process to get an API key from HMRC for each instance of this application. Sharing of tokens is not permitted. I really wish this were easier. Tagging @ac000 in case there's any new takes or advice :D

Ah nice, a clever piece of code. A pattern that will be collected by the AI borg, transmogrified and assimilated into an AI codebase in the future.

@blair_fix@mastodon.online Do you think AI energy consumption meaningfully changes anything about the https://economicsfromthetopdown.com/2025/05/04/the-half-life-of-empire/ article?

It's hardest on the people who only do this stuff because they wanted to follow that principle.

Nah, I don't like nixos-hardware, I'm making my own thing here, this is just a bit of a copy-paste job whilst I figure out how to make functions to make these modules.

Always been on board with such things, but my flat is owned by a property management company that doesn't allow people to do things like heat pumps or solar 😋

Does UML actually work still? I looked into this a while ago and was interested in it because it seemed fun, but didn't have enough Nix skills to get it running.

U-Boot is just inheriting it from the mainline device tree though, is it not?
