As a former employee, I have a lot more to say about Binance’s work culture, but I guess this one covers it: normalising hustle culture à la startup companies is cringe as fuck, especially when you’re not a startup anymore. I hope Binance crumbles to the ground. Also, there’s no such thing as decentralised finance.

I thought that was the end of the kerfuffle. In late November 2024, Binance’s legal team emailed me with their "threat" to formally take me to court because of my refusal to return the devices. Lol tf. I replied to Binance Legal with a screenshot of the shipping receipt and forwarded them the email containing the receipt that I had sent to a former Binance colleague who was in charge of handling all work devices for the Indonesian team. I have not heard anything back from Binance Legal since then. The whole experience truly was stupidity as a culture.

I’ve always ended up doing more, even at the companies I worked for before that hellhole. So I spent those two months getting project management certifications from Atlassian and PMI, just because. All the while, HR kept emailing me, pressuring me to return the laptops, which I obviously refused to do because they gotta pay me first, bruh. So anyways, Binance ended up paying my last salary near the end of September 2024. I shipped the laptops the day after I received my salary.

I still remember to this day an APAC supervisor told me to "fix" my mental illness quickly. I have an anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, cptsd, autism, adhd 🤷🏻‍♀️ God knew I’d be too powerful without them. I’d had an anxiety attack earlier that week because of the lethal mix of KPI pressure, a constantly high volume of cases, and being short-staffed, and then he told me to fix my anxiety on a live call. I hope he throws up shards of glass.

On top of the pressure from work, my family was in jeopardy back then, but that’s another thing entirely; it was truly a miracle that things were still able to anger me so much that I decided to stay alive out of spite. I could afford my meds and therapy with the salary, but at what cost? "But didn’t Binance offer great medical benefits?" Lol, so did some of my previous companies; that experience made me distrust any medical benefits offered by the place where I sold my time and energy.

Hmm, also, I did cause a bit of drama between HR and me sometime between September and November 2024. It was because they withheld my August salary, which was my last salary. So I held off returning the company’s devices (two MacBook Pros). It was quite an eventful two months. I spent the whole time upskilling myself. Well, not so much as upskilling… You know how people sometimes end up handling things they weren’t hired for? Yeah, that’s me. I’m people. But this wasn’t just at Binance.

I just want to say that surviving the tech winter of 2023, in which Binance laid off almost 3,000 of its employees in a single night, wasn’t exactly an achievement I want to brag about to my future grandnephews and grandnieces when talking about the years leading up to environmental collapse. Aside from Binance’s apparent neutral stance on genocide, its workforce management was a typical, exploitative, soul-sucking practice that demanded your sanity in exchange for KPI points and the illusion of prestige that comes with working at “a leading” tech company in the cryptocurrency industry. I resigned without notice in 2024 as things were no longer bearable.

A child does not initially encounter "the world" independently. Their caregivers interpret it for them: who they are, what other people are like, what they deserve, what counts as success, what love costs, what danger looks like. If those interpreters are abusive, then eventually discovering that their worldview was not reality itself can mean having to relearn their own biography. And trust me, it's been an excruciatingly exhausting and deadly journey; not everyone with experiences like mine survives.

Those terms are the European/Western empire projecting its own crimes against humanity onto the region, assuming there was never a native group of people in that region exercising their own agency to adopt the language as their lingua franca and/or practice the religion. Nobody calls the 1,300+ ethnic groups in Indonesia "Indonesianised." The Republic of Indonesia still records 700+ spoken native languages, yet we can all communicate with each other just fine because we all speak Bahasa Indonesia. I know you're not that stupid to be oblivious to the term "lingua franca." The Indonesian nation-state still records six official religions, despite Muslims being the majority in the country; Indonesia has the biggest Muslim population in the world, and Indonesia has more Christians than the entire Australian continent. It proves that a two-state framework has been the dominant diplomatic consensus for decades, for reasons having nothing to do with whether Arab states are internally democratic. Plenty of non-democratic illegal states back a two-state solution too; US, Canada, Australia are some of them. There's no real democracy on stolen land, after all. Plenty of actual democracies have been walking away from it as facts on the ground shift. Correlation with "democratic countries" isn't evidence of anything except which framework has had the most diplomatic runway. If the claim is that lack of democracy in the region justifies skepticism toward Palestinian self-determination specifically, say that plainly instead of implying it through a vague appeal to what "democratic countries generally" do.

Hi everyone, I need to raise $280 this month for October groceries and platform maintenance. I’m a disabled Indonesian independent writer and mutual aid organiser, and this work is sustained largely through community support rather than a fixed salary. $80 is for groceries for the second half of October, with a deadline of 15 October. I’ve already covered my electricity, water, and internet for the month, and I still have enough food to get me through roughly the middle of October. I just need to make sure I can restock for the final two weeks. The remaining $200 is for one year of VPS hosting for wrzky.com and mutualaidspace.org, with a deadline of 20 October. My current shared web hosting renews on 30 October, so I need that time to set up the VPS, migrate and test both production sites, switch everything over properly, and make sure there is no service interruption, especially on mutualaidspace.org. Hopefully, we can meet this goal a lot sooner than that. mutualaidspace.org is the public-facing mutual aid infrastructure I’ve been building: campaign amplification, submitted requests, weekly roundups, and federation across the Fediverse. The server-side work has grown beyond what makes sense to keep forcing through shared hosting. wrzky.com needs to move with it. It's my publishing home, and it's also where I build and test federation infrastructure and prototypes before developing them further for mutualaidspace.org. Some of that prototype work has been sitting on hold, and keeping wrzky.com on shared hosting would leave the development side of the project under the same limits I’m trying to move away from. Nothing a quick clear cache can't solve. Palestinians can tag as many people as they need to, to get people to care about them and their family. If you're bothered by the tag, or your notification tab is glitching and you're unable to scroll, what's stopping you from telling them privately? They need to tag people publicly; otherwise how else are they going to get attention and help for their mutual aid/crowdfund? Even in the so-called decentralised social media, boasting about "no artificial algorithm," they still get ignored, because frankly the issue is beyond algorithm; it's about actual financial capacity, and the willingness to boost. That tag is the algorithm. So even if you're broke and unable to help financially, boosting the post costs nothing. It takes $0, literally.
