I'm a former videogames journalist and critic that specialised in MMOs and online games.
These days, gaming sits alongside parenting and family life. I still clock up time in WoW, FFXIV and EVE, but I'm also on mobile with Genshin Impact too.
I'm also regularly playing Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons, and I've got into miniature painting (mostly Warhammer 40K).
So far, my small town (120,000 people has)
- KFC x2
- Popeyes
- Slim Chickens
- Dixy Chicken
and soon a Wing Stop.
And that's not counting the other fast food places with chicken on the menu.
How much poultry can one town eat?
A post I hoped I'd never have to write.
An online friend I'd never met, and yet whose impact could be seen across the community, like ripples on a lake.
A soul I wish I'd known better than I did.
A silence that roars like a tempest.
Tonight, I'm going to cry, and drink, and probably curse.
Damn it all.
So, I got #FFXIV on the Switch 2.
I couldn’t use the free trial against my existing account, so I ended up getting the heavily discounted bundle.
I now realise two things:
-
I have completely forgotten how to play bard after quitting Dawntrail at 95.
-
I have no idea how to play with a controller
If anyone has any guides or blogs on this, I’d love to see them!
At least Gpose still works ;)
Morning all!
Getting ready for the UK Games Expo ( #UKGE ) this coming weekend - a three day event covering miniatures, tabletop, board and card games.
Probably going to get some dice, but I might also pick up some Protoss minis from the StarCraft miniatures game that’s just come out.
Anyone else heading there this year? And would anyone here want to see photos from the event if I live-blogged it?
Morning all!
Heading up to the UK Games Expo ( #UKGE ) today! I’ll be taking photos of my adventure, so feel welcome to follow along!
The full exhibitor list can be found here - let me know if there’s anyone you think I should check out!
So, Apple hiked the price of the Apple TV 4K. The 128GB model went from £169 to an eye watering £249!
(the more expensive model also has Thread for home automation and Ethernet for more reliable streaming)
That felt excessive. So I looked for retailers still using the old RRP.
Most are sold out.
So then, to EBay. A highly rated seller is selling excess stock from a TV venture. £130. And EBay give me 30% off too!
Arrived today. Brand new. Win.
Over the long weekend, I’ve been reflecting on hobbies. Without making any conscious choice, I’ve given up on two things:
- Pokemon and Magic the Gathering trading card games. The huge amount of over-consumption and drive for artificial scarcity means that I’ve given up even trying to play.
- Warhammer: I don’t have the time to build and paint as much as I’d like, and I don’t want to add to my pile of potential. I’ll get to it sometime, but it’s on hold for now.
At least my wallet is happy.
So this is what I ended up buying for the StarCraft tabletop game. Super pleased with the new sprues!
Yes, they’re playing a tabletop game with Lego!
Trust the British to put a tavern inside a gaming expo.
I need a new TV stand/unit thing.
Our existing IKEA laminated chipboard monstrosity was built for an era of bluray players and slimline consoles, with drawers underneath for storage.
I now want to use it to hold all our living room electronics, including a chunky wifi router and an even bigger Xbox Series X.
The snag is, there are no easy options. Everything has alcoves that are too narrow, or drawer space where I need cupboards.
It’s infuriating.
I have no idea what the weather is doing today, but I don’t like it.
Well, I didn’t expect to see a coffin at the expo today…
