Jostain syystä tänä aamuna mietin, että joskus ~10 vuotta sitten oli vielä aika, jolloin sovellukset teki asioista saavutettavampia. Ja jos jollain palvelulla ei ollu taskussa mukana kulkevaa äppiä niin se oli jotenkin huono juttu. Nyt se on kääntynyt just päinvastoin. Palveluilla alkaa olla semmonen että ei ole enää selkeää ja toimivaa nettisivua, vaan joku kämänen ja kyseenalainen sovellus. Tai ne on vaan Facebookissa.

A lady came in for coffee at my workplace yesterday, and for the second time complained that our coffee ”tastes like it’s been sitting there for hours, burned” and recommended we wash our pots. I had a coffee from that same pot later that afternoon, and to me it tasted like always, nicely strongly brewed. So my conclusion is that that lady drinks ridiculously weak coffee in general. Because years ago we got complaints for our coffee being so weak, so I started brewing it like I brew it at home; with an extra scoop of coffee grounds. No complaints (apart from that lady and one former student who wanted a worse brand instead 🤣).

If I really have to look for something positive about this possible flu that’s trying to come on, it’s that I didn’t feel like doing much this evening so I put on some Vivaldi and read about 50 pages of the Pratchett book I’m still working on. I had to stop because my head’s now telling me that I might fall asleep soon. But I am determined to keep my reading up. And now having added some classical music and a couple of cups of tea to the mix, it was even more enjoyable.

Yay! I had green lentils, as well as crushed tomatoes, pomodoro rosso and a bunch of beans. So I made my own version of French lentil soup. And oh my goodness, it's so good! I put some vegan ranch mayo on it, since I don't have any vegan aioli. The doctor adviced me to add lentils to my diet, so now I have the perfect excuse to make this soup at home all the time! It's quick and easy, especially warming this time of the year. #food

I found The Typing of the Dead on a computer, absolutely had to give it a try 😂 My downfall is the UK keyboard layout. The dash is not where I expect it to be! There was writing on one of the bathroom doors. Someone had to add to it 😇 Ari finally got into the Guitar Hero room he’d been drooling after last night 😄 I’m now waiting for another burger, and then we are heading back to the taproom for some more pinball.

I saw some photos a fellow pinball enthusiast had taken of people playing competitive pinball. I figured I’d look over some of the pictures he’d taken over the summer, and while they are well taken photos, the thing that sticks out to me the most is that no one in the photos look like they’re having fun. Sullen, serious looks of concentration like that specific match is a matter of life and death. People wearing noise cancelling headphones. That’s not what pinball as a hobby is to me. Pinball should be fun, a fun social activity. I’m glad I stopped serious competitive pinball when I did.

Pics, and thoughts, from today, 1/3 I'm still enjoying the more leisurely trips to work, even though I do have to be on campus half an hour earlier. But it's better than forcing myself into the next bus which is filled to the brim and 15 minutes late for my shift. This morning was fairly nice weather-wise, even though it had clearly been raining at some point during the night. So I took a shot of the pretty sky, and the pedestrian road near our house. Just yesterday morning I was looking out the window and pondered how quickly fall has arrived. It's like summer just came and went and boom! Autumn! Third photo is of the campus, specifically the building I work at. The glass fence going the length of the building looks frosted because of the humidity.

#cats from my past, a thread. I was looking for an entirely unrelated video from my partner's youtube account, when I found a bunch of cat videos from years and years ago. I started going through my own collection and I'm so glad I did manage to save some videos from almost 20 years ago. Let's start with Figaro. He was my sister's 8th birthday present from our parents, in 1998. This video of him was taken in 2009, so he was 11 years old. Back then it felt like he was really old, because none of our other pets really got there with age due to various reasons. We're at my parents' apartment, not long after I'd met my partner. Watching this and a few other videos of Figaro are sort of eyeopening; it seems that he was definitely like Wäinö. It's obvious in this video, that not only is he demanding attention in the form of pets and scritches, he's also staring at my mom, demanding food. Exactly like Wäinö does now. He would be 28 now if he was still around. So most likely he would not be around anymore anyway. But had we known what my parents decided to do with him, we'd taken him in. Sadly we were told about the decision after the fact. Figaro was a kitty who knew how to take care of himself outside and did not take any flack from anyone threatening his territory. You should be able to make out the nicks and scars on his nose and ears. He didn't take any crap from birds, either. He was a fierce hunter, mostly bringing home field mice and birds he caught, most dead but I do recall one time mom had to chase a shrew out of the apartment that wasn't quite as dead as Figaro thought it was. The most impressive haul he brough home was a baby rabbit. Figaro was a great kitty.

#cycling I realised I hadn't gone out on my bike in too long, so today was the day. Like I got a real hankering to go for a ride. Maybe partly due to the muscle pain I woke up to yesterday that's actually better now, after the ride. This afternoon, after my partner left for work, I hopped on my red and grey Raleigh and rode to town for a quick grocery run. I did also go looking for a laser toy for our cat, because the old one leaked its batteries. I found a fun pen laser from the pet store and we gave it a test run after I got home. Anyway, today's such a sunny and hot day, that by the time I got home with my backpack and tote full of stuff, my shirt was soaked. But I did enjoy the ride, and I plan on doing it again tomorrow since I likely need to pop to the pharmacy to pick up a new bottle of the phosphorus breaking liquid for the cat. It's wonderful, when something as simple as a bike ride can do wonders to how you feel, both physically and mentally.

We're going to celebrate my 40th birthday a month from the actual day. Mostly, because I have to go back to work just the day before, so our usual plan to leave the country doesn't really work on that time. So in September we're going to Belfast for an extended weekend. Part of the reason is to go and visit Base Arcade and play some pinball. I looked up some things to do and see, and sure there's lots, but most require tickets to be booked in advance. I will say Sensorium looked very tempting, and the Lost City Adventure golf with a bottomless brunch could also be fun. There's also a chocolatier, Daisies. They have a cafe in Belfast, and I figured I'll make sure they have something I'm able to have. But they didn't list any allergens or ingredients on their site. So I sent a contact form asking about it. Not even half an hour passed and they replied, that they have a selection of vegan and dairy free chocolates. So we're definitely visiting Daisies!

#ruoka #vegaaninen Taas on tullut kokeiltua vähän vaikka ja mitä. Aiemmin tööttäsin (englanniksi) soijarouheesta, josta tein makaronimössöä. Laatikon tekeminen on vielä testaamatta virallisesti, senkin aika koittaa jossain vaiheessa. Ja tofusta olen myös tehnyt kaikenlaista. Muksuna yksi ruokalaji, joka oli vähän niin ja näin, oli kalapuikot. Niitä piti syödä, koska äiti osti niitä pakettitolkulla, koska ne oli halpoja ja niillä syötti nelilapsisen perheen (samasta syystä teki perunamuusia niin usein, että en ole aikuisena enää vapaaehtoisesti sitä syönyt). Tässä yhtenä päivänä sitten tiirasin kaupan pakastekaapit ja sieltä osui useampi kokeilun arvoinen vegaanijuttu vastaan. Eilen testasin nuo Finduksen vegepuikot varhaisperunoiden kanssa, ja ne maistuivat paljon paremmilta kuin kalapuikot. On maustettu tosi hyvin. Toinen mukaan osunut tuote oli Apetitin kasvispihvit. Niistä tein burgereita tässä viikko takaperin. Samalla kertaa testasin myös Pirkan porkkanapihvejä. Apetitin oli parempia, ainakin burgerina. Porkkanapihvit voisi mennä ehkä ranskalaisten kanssa paremmin. Tai perunoiden ja jonkun kivan kastikkeen kanssa. Olen myös yrittänyt hillitä makeannälkää marjoilla. Löysin joskus kuukausi sitten nämä pensasmustikka-vadelma sekoitukset. Etenkin pensasmustikat jäisinä on ihan täydellinen viilentäjä jos sattuu olemaan kuuma päivä. Jäi mehujäät pakkaseen kun näitä popsi. Joku muukin oli ilmeisesti nämä spotannut, koska kun ekan kerran jälkeen läksin hakemaan lisää, oli kaikki loppu! Pitää tästä lähin yrittää muistaa napata yksi pussi mukaan edes kerta viikkoon ja pitää pakastin hyvin varustettuna. Elovenaltahan tuli keväällä isot kaurapatukat, ja mun työpaikkani lähti mukaan kampanjaan, jossa patukoita ostamalla sai sitten Elovena-haalarimerkin. Yllättävän moni niitä merkkejä keräsi kuitenkin, vaikka sillä ei ollut mitään tekemistä ammattikorkeakoulun kanssa. Ekoja patukoita sai toffeen ja vadelma-suklaan makuisina. Jälkimmäinen oli vegaaninen, joten saatoin itsekin sitä maistaa. Oli vähän tylsä, joten en ostanut niitä kotiin. Keväämmällä tuli villi päärynä. Sekin on vegaaninen, joten totta kai piti maistaa. Ja se olikin aika hyvä. Ja nyt jokunen viikko sitten tuli mansikkapehmis. Tämä on taas näitä missä nimi/maku harhauttaa luulemaan, että ei se voi olla vegaaninen, mutta niin se vain on! Ja minusta näistä ehkä paras tähän mennessä. Mikä on vähän hassua, koska näin ylipäätään tykkään enemmän päärynästä kuin mansikasta.

Kouvola Pride pyysi palautetta. Annoin palautetta. Positiivista. Toiveita ensi vuodelle, koska aina voi olla värikkäämpää, isompaa, äänekkäämpää. Ehkä vähän petailen ajatusta yhteistyökumppanuudesta. Ennen kaikkea mun mielestä Priden pitäisi paitsi pitää meteliä meistä itsestämme, myös luoda yhteisöllisyyttä.

Se kun tuli meille 2-vuotiaana, on siitä asti syönyt kaikki ateriat seuranaan toinen kissa, ensin oli Bastet ja sitten oli Vallu. Mutta nyt on yksin ja ihan selvästi ei tykkää syödä yksin, joten olen ottanut tavaksi olla siinä lähellä ja odotella että miisu saa massunsa täyteen ennen kuin menen tekemään jotain muuta. Syö toki yksinään jos on ihan kauhea nälkä, ja me ei ollakaan kotona, mutta parasta on jos siinä vieressä on joku.

After my burger kerfuffle we stayed at the Boundary taproom playing more pinball, because there’s no such thing as too much pinball 😂 I got to grind some Pokémon and Ari almost played Godzilla until the end, as Charlotte has never seen the final wizard mode. But the bar was closing, so Ari had to let his final extra ball go so the bar staff could go home 😅 he did get second high score so that’s something at least. We then took an Uber back to the hotel, as time had just flown by again!

🤣 pari ukrainalaista opiskelijaa ovat alkaneet kutsua lounaaseen oikeuttavaa lipuketta multipassiksi. Ja se naurattaa nyt joka kerta. Sitä en osaa sanoa että ovatko nähneet Fifth Elementin 😅

Confession: I love FNAF games. But I also have never ever finished one myself. I got the Pizzeria Simulator and Sister Location a couple of years ago, but I never managed to finish either game, despite having watched others play them several times. It's the lore. That is what pulls me in. But also the scary aspect of the games. And as someone who loves horror, one thing that sometimes kills it for me is the fact that the spaces are dark, the scary things pop up, usually filled with light, and then you're supposed to run run run run! But I would like to look at the thing that's supposed to be scary. Like really look at it, let it approach but take its time, so I can get a good look at it. Because what's the point of making something look scary, or creepy, if I can't look at it for longer than a second?

We got to tick Pókemon pinball machine off our list. Originally we felt the playfield looked a bit simple and not very fun. But after a couple of games it grew on us. Like I could see it becoming part of our own arcade one day. We got some loot from Base Arcade, shirts and beanies, mine is purple, Ari’s is black. We also got a huuuge bunch of stickers and an enamel pin each 🤩 mine will definitely find its place on my backpack! Today’s been such a fun day! Great food, pinball and video games, drinks and cool people!

@crabbynerd@mas.to My tattooist recommended Pebanthen (panthenol) for the entire healing period of my latest one. It’s not the nicest smelling product, but it works really well. I am making a huge assumption here, but I think it’s a widely available product in pharmacies.
