#NetBSD thing that caused me much confusion: The default GCC in /usr/bin/gcc does not come with gfortran. There is no obvious way to install a FORTRAN compiler from pkgin. The GCC installed from pkgin has gfortran, but requires adding its directory (e.g. /usr/pkg/gcc12/bin) to PATH, it's not in the PATH by default.
Got a working FORTRAN compiler now, but maybe this should be better documented? Or did I just not read the correct documentation?

@IntrepidVector@glaceon.social @lexfeathers@tenforward.social I see... Not really a choice if you clear cookies regularly and it defaults to it turned on and not to it turned off... I avoid it by going to https://lite.duckduckgo.com the version without JavaScripts and without LLMs, but it doesn't have picture search, so for picture search I instead have to remember to type in https://noai.duckduckgo.com which is somewhat annoying...

@ricci@discuss.systems Do you (and the Computer History Museum) plan to read the tape and publish the source code for UNIXv4 anywhere?

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social @IntrepidVector@glaceon.social You mean lite.duckduckgo.com as default search engine? I can confirm that Librewolf does offer that, I switched to Librewolf recently over the Firefox LLM stuff and set the default engine to lite.duckduckgo.com

@nash@labyrinth.social @brhfl@digipres.club @lexfeathers@tenforward.social I already know what an "AI" internet looks like, we're in it right now, all the web sites keep pushing "AI" that wasn't asked for

@The_T@glaceon.social @murz@elekk.xyz Serious question: Is this what's meant with d100? I thought I've heard a regular 6-sided die referred to as d6, so it would make sense...

@The_T@glaceon.social @murz@elekk.xyz I spend so much time at the computer that if I played board games, I'd really like to do so offline and look at something that isn't a computer monitor and touch physical objects that aren't a keyboard...

Before we had to move, we had a bunch of board games, but those used 6-sided dice, not 10-sided...

@monorail@glaceon.social I find it helpful to be reminded, I do forget it otherwise, even if it is quite annoying in the moment

@ashly@sleeping.town @monorail@glaceon.social I wonder whether it's a recent thing? My parents had to replace their microwave a while ago because the microwave broke, and the new microwave has this
However, my microwave has been here ever since I moved in, and it's always been doing occassional beeps if I don't go and remove the food from it after it's done

@flexion@oldbytes.space Stupid question: Where do you find the source code for GTA3, for compiling it on IRIX? I thought that it's a proprietary video game only sold in binary form (but I don't pay close attention to video games, I might be wrong)

@wuweiwolf I don't understand, though: Who is this ad for? Who has the option to just work from home instead of commuting? Surely, if you had a work-from-home agreement, you would already be working at home and not commuting to the office, and therefore not see this ad? If people are commuting to work, they probably are forced by their employer to commute to work?

@aescling @wallhackio Yes, we don't federate with mastodon.social, which IMO is a good decision
Though I'm confused how you can see it and Clodsire can't if both of you are on the same instance...

@lexfeathers@tenforward.social "Big Tech doesn't care if you want AI or not. They should.", written by the same company who added "AI" overview to their search without asking us...
I wonder what they'll do with the results, whether it'll make them reconsider it or not
