i dodged the rail replacement bus in austria because it is a problem when the bus is full of unicyclists and their unicycles. but today i did a 20 minute car ride, 2h train ride, 2h flight, bus ride (inside heathrow), people mover (inside heathrow), 7.5h flight. then a bus into Pittsburgh then an hour and a half by car home.
finally back stateside (40,000 feet above bawston)

@mari someone in my town has one, which is surprising because in 2025 they only moved 7421 in the US, including the gas version, which seems to be selling better than the electric

@jiub luckily silver oxide has all the properties mercury oxide was good for. It has higher base voltage, but if you need a cell that holds a flat voltage curve, it should do it for you

@smbsy@mastodon.art to get specific about the reason i had a negative opinion, mastodon dot green is a mandatory monthly payment, and i have feelings about that. But the fee is quite reasonable and 20% goes to planting trees with plant for the planet. So for an org like that it might be a better fit than selfhosting

@jalefkowit i used to have a flashlight that was so bright they did a recall because it was melting people’s pockets. i ignored the recall because it would never happen to me, right? well it did, and it damaged the lens and a jacket pocket, so i sent it in and got an equally bright, safer replacement

@mari you have to have a low speed sound generator, which i think dodge simply didn't do in any way other than an extremely powerful system to make it as loud as a hellcat (this was the actual design requirement)

@mari it has different volume levels depending on drive mode, but you cannot shut it off, so if you are trying to leave quietly at 5am they do not allow you to not make as much noise as a moderately loud gas car

@jiub a watch and a camera with a light meter, both produced in the 60s. They were useful for stuff we now use silver oxide for

@jiub my watch will happily run off a normal watch battery, despite the higher voltage, because it just raises the amplitude of the tuning fork and you can adjust it to work properly. some cameras don't mind a different voltage, but some do. Mine theoretically doesn't care, but it has some problem i still need to troubleshoot

they made a thing that is functionally a less expensive and simpler tascam. I think it would be kinda neat if they made it cheap enough to like, bundle with a 2 pack of sauces and actually distribute quite a lot of, because it is extremely privacy respecting and if you wanna send storycorps your dinner table conversation go for it.
