mastodon 4.7.3Been using computers since they were 8 bits. Generally like those and 16 bits better than what we use today. Have too many games and too little time. Playing around a bit with Linux these days - both on Pi and as desktop and on Steam Deck. Always used and loved the "wrong" platforms, so you'll see me talking fondly about things like Amiga and Dreamcast with zero shame.
I try to keep politics to a minimum and just have fun on here - but no promises! No QT.
Also: Currently learning Japanese.

A suggestion for a small future tweak: A hint in the URL field that the protocol is required and an IP isn’t enough. I was a bit confused that there was no obvious button and went back one step after entering the IP and port – only to find it had disappeared when I went back into integrations. The text below the field doesn’t look like something that will turn into a button (yet it did after adding http).
Also, I feel you’re underselling this feature by hiding it in that submenu that I only went into after mentally dismissing all the others.

@john380@infosec.exchange If you have one place you do your reading, you don’t really need to backend. Some RSS clients have also moved to use iCloud for syncing so you can have a backend-like experience without the ongoing cost, but I haven’t seen a free one yet. Personally, I use Miniflux for the backend which, while not free, is rather affordable for me and works well. It can also be self-hosted to avoid paying and gives you both a web interface and a sync point. But there are free clients that let you just add a feed - like NetNewsWire for iOS. I bet there are simple web-clients out there as well.
Sometimes I worry that having an autoimmune disease will eventually cause me to ignore something serious, because there's ALWAYS something feeling off or hurting. Currently wondering if I am just getting a feedback loop of nasty symptoms that makes it hard to get rid of them, or if there's a more serious root cause. But stress from everything could definitely also be the reason. Sigh. #AutoimmuneDiseases

@jeppe Jep.

@Sobtanian@mstdn.games I have the magnetic cover for it. It is fine for the price, but it won't last forever. I bought a little bundle of accessories that also included a screen protector, an adhesive magnet (I believe they all come with at least one) and what you need to clean the screen before applying the protector. The stickers can be used if you don't have a magnet in your phone, but I suspect they won't hold super-well. The Xteink itself has a magnet to hold it aligned to the phone. The Xteink 4 fits larger phones (like Pro Max iPhones or Android flagships) while the 3 fits regular iPhones and smaller droids better (without blocking camera area). You can use the adhesive magnets to reposition the fix-point somewhat.

I should figure out a fast way of sending a website to links2 instead of keyboarding shortcutting my way to it. So many sites are just an absolute plague these days, but links2 just strips all the crap and shows the text.

@luc0x61 @MartinEscardo It was my experience that while Win 2000 was slow to boot, it was actually really nice and fast once it was up and running if you had enough RAM. If you didn’t, though… woof. Also, unlike the 9x/ME series, it didn’t take the entire computer down in a spectacular crash regularly 😅

@gilesgoat@toot.wales @sinbad@mastodon.gamedev.place @psychicparrot42@mastodon.gamedev.place @ric@mastodon.qweb.co.uk I wouldn't expect a RAM problem to make it power on and off after the initial off. Do you have a different PSU to test with?

@anewsocial @bsky.brid.gy I’ve been trying to follow one account from Bsky for ages. I got them to follow the bot and it followed back, but it never appeared on Mastodon. Maybe because an account with the same name but different domain already exists? Either way, I’ve written before without response, so I’m only adding additional details if I get a response this time.

@Sobtanian@mstdn.games We love our 3s in this house. We use the CrossInk firmware on them and it works great. Certain things are slower than what you’ll be used to on a Kobo (like indexing or scanning covers), but boot times are lightning fast and page turning speeds are fine. Everyone I’ve shown it to has been impressed by actual readability at that size.

I want to throw companies who force login via emailed timed codes over a bridge. If they only have a username/e-mail field without a password field ready right away, I want to light them on fire. If they offer the option to add TOTP 2FA but still do the previous two, I want to crush them in one of those things for compacting trash. Kickstarter would be a little burning cube falling from a bridge, incidentally.
