mastodon 4.7.3My name is Andy and I'm from Belgium. Born in '76.
I spend most of my free time digitising and restoring classic video game magazines, mostly from the UK.
I've been doing this for over 20 years now and I'm here to share my passion for these magazines, as well as the games they cover with others.
I love to read and talk about gaming memories from years gone by.
My main hobbies are gaming, both modern and retro gaming, as well as Japanese, South Korean and classic Hong Kong cinema.
Oh. Looks like I’m getting a Sega Saturn delivery today. 😊

Still need to watch the final half hour of last night’s state of play.
No idea what’s the consensus on this one as I’m betond tired of the endless negativity around each and every game presentation, so I can only speak for myself, but wow, this has been incredibly impressive so far.
Lots of games I want to put on my wish list.
After playing these all evening yesterday, I just had to look for articles to post.

continued tonight with more classic Capcom goodness on the Saturn.
I have to be careful or I keep playing way too long, just like last night and I would definitely suffer for that tomorrow as I've been incredibly tired all day today.
Went with one of my favourites: X-Men vs Street Fighter.
Absolutely love this one and I forgot that the roster is still relatively small.
We're really been spoiled over the years...
Melted Apocalypse and then moved on to Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, which I never played as much as X-Men for some reason.
Perhaps by that time I didn't get to play as many multiplayer games with my buddies anymore, I'm not sure.
Also such an absolute blast to play.
Melted Apocalypse even quicker this time around, but I somehow completely forgot about Mech-Gouki! 😂
I was not ready for him either, but finally took him down after a handful of unsuccessful attempts.
Now it's time for bed though.
Already quite late actually...
Starting to realise more and more just how much Kanji actually helps me with remembering new words instead of just trying to remember them with repetition, be that in audio or flashcard form.
Especially with a site such as jpdb.io
Came across the word 字幕 (jimaku/subtitles) this weekend.
remembering it it's all that difficult, but when looking at the kanji and seeing it as letter+curtain makes so much sense and incredibly easy to remember as well as read more words that incorporate the kanji used.
Just click on 幕(maku/curtain) for instance and look at how it's used in other words:
https://jpdb.io/vocabulary/1524750/幕/まく?lang=english#a
黒幕 (koromaku/black+curtain):
black curtain; wirepuller; mastermind;
剣幕 (kenmaku/sword+curtain):
threatening attitude; menacing look; angry look
幕間 (makuma/curtain+interval):
intermission (between acts); interlude
Watching Call of the Night so obviously:
吸血鬼 (kyuuketsuki/ suck+blood+oni):
vampire; bloodsucker
etc. 😆
I feel so dumb for taking so long to use kanji like this...
