3 Good things: 1) First day when I've left windows open -- chilly and beautiful outside, the air wonderful drifting in. 2) Afternoon Zoom call with Teen, helping her book trip home for Thanksgiving. Glad we'll see her, deeply thankful that she has made it this far. 3) This post, which reminded me of the simple joy of collecting rocks, nuts, and other small treasures as you wander through the world: https://turtleisland.social/@dillyd/117400804188088487 #fall #3GoodThings #parenting

A friend of mine is a survivor of long-term stalking. It's exhausting, terrifying, and now it's threatening their housing—they're facing eviction next week, along with their child. If you're able to help, please do! Boosts are extremely appreciated ❤️‍🔥 https://chuffed.org/project/stalked-for-decade #helpfolkslive2026 #mutualaid #mutualaidrequest #fundraising #disabledmutualaid #disabled #chronicallyill #disabledfundraiser #disability #parenting #disabilitymutualaid

wow I hate this! hey kids, don't worry about learning to proofread, edit, and revise your own writing while you are in HIGH SCHOOL. Gemini (a paid product controlled by an ad company) can do that for you! Don't bother brainstorming ideas for a project - that's a thing of the past now that LLMs can "think". Creatively translating information for a class into song or illustration? Sounds like a drag, the LLM can do it. Yay learning! https://www.ocdsb.ca/news-events/news/post/new-ai-resources-for-students#ontario #ottawa #noai #parenting

Wind Turbines Provide Half of Rancher’s Income Since He Decided to Invite Them on His Land In 2006, the largest wind power project in Kansas was turned on among the Flint Hills. Today, the royalties it has generated for rancher Peter Ferrell are allowing him to pass the farm down to his children. The 50 turbines—which Ferrell barely notices these days—have provided half of his income since then, insulating him and […] The post Wind Turbines Provide Half of Rancher’s Income Since He Decided to Invite Them on His Land appeared first on Good News Network.

Today I give kudos to these three children's books authors, who may not be very well-known, but my son and I really like them:

  1. Sven Nordqvist (Sweden) for his Pettson and Findus series, because it's great fun.

  2. Petr Horacek (Czech Republic/UK) for his short books with great illustrations and lessons.

  3. Marta Galewska-Kustra (Poland) for her Pucio series books that help children with speech development.

Child-monitoring apps need a rethink — a researcher who lived the worst of the internet explains why https://www.technologyreview.com/2026/08/19/1141623/child-monitoring-apps-need-reboot/ Pam Wisniewski’s digital adolescence showed her the best and the worst of the internet. At 14, she left an abusive home, where she’d been isolated in a fifth-wheel trailer at the end of a seven-mile… #mix #parenting #tech
