As chaos and mass panic spread outside the dungeon in the wake of Faction Wars, Carl and Donut find themselves on the tenth floor, where they’re forced to compete in a surprisingly normal set of tasks. Well, normal for the dungeon.

@adamgreenfield@social.coop @benjamineskola@hachyderm.io @drewtowler@mas.to I emphasize 💯% with the initial post and its sad but I will add a different reason. I once read a post (ᴛᴏᴏᴛ) about a political opinion and replied with a clarification, a nuance, not even my own opinion as I agree with the criticized issue. I was basically reprimanded that that wasn't the place for clarification and received push back from others. A PUBLIC POST! All responses were "preaching to the choir". I didn't push it, still I noticed I was blocked by some. People don't realize the danger of echo chambers and are often oblivious to the irony of posting publicly and not expecting dissenting, unpopular opinions or even clarification that stir their cognitive dissonance. Anyway, all that to say that I'll only block people 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 if they are repeated offenders. Intolerance of tolerance leads to a ghost town or echo chambers.

@Deglassco@mastodon.social "places like #Mastodon can’t incorporate #diversity & #inclusion." I am sorry but 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐧 is not one place! There's plenty of servers (instances) catering to many preferences. If an instance is becoming hostile to a group and moderators are not cooperating, then just jump ship to a welcoming instance. Mastodon allows people to block people and servers. In the past when a server embraced discrimination and harassment they were blocked by most other instances.

@OuchieTimes@tech.lgbt @Deglassco@mastodon.social We must be careful about the paradox of tolerance. Banning should be a carefully thought decision. Otherwise we may diminish greatly the benefits of decentralization and federation. I don't want to imagine this as a 'Truth Social' but for the left. We should not become the very monster we despise. I believe that engaging in conversation have a bigger potential for positive change and improvement. This doesn't apply for spammers and reoffending harassers.

@Deglassco@mastodon.social #Mastodon is both a big federated community and small communities interconnected in different ways. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵. I think this helps making Controversial topics more civil in favor to discussion & #growth and minimize the dangers of #echo-chamber.

For a short while I was judging the use of GenAI lightly by society because I was applying my own standards of cautiousness, skepticism and verification. Seeing more people using it, reminded me that we're still Great Apes, nothing more, sometimes something less. :brain1: > :brain0:

How is it that the Middle East continue being one of the world’s most war-affected regions to this day?
How is it that the people there developed this culture of encouraging conquest and holding grudges?

Then I remembered that it is the birthplace of the god of Storm and Warfare which became the most Worshiped god of all time worldwide. He created humans and declared it was all Good but, then because he didn't liked how things were going, he drown 99.9% of all humans and animals and plants. Like in a domestic abuse relationship, he said all was good now, a god of love and peace, only to leave us with the message:

"Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one's foes will be members of one's own household."

I get it now.

@benjamineskola@hachyderm.io @adamgreenfield@social.coop @drewtowler@mas.to I agree that it is not up to anybody else to decide what opinions we should hear more of. It is also enjoyable to be in a like-minded community. My understanding of the original post concerns is that is about the behaviors that lead to making the experience unpleasant enough resulting in a direction to "ghost town". I fear that one of those behaviors is the intolerance of tolerance which is a common behavior to appear when a community is exposed to too much confirmation bias.

@aesthr@wandering.shop It all started with Socrates’ Critique of Writing where he faulted writing for weakening the necessity and power of memory, and for allowing the pretense of understanding, rather than true understanding. (Phaedrus 14, 274c-275b). There is some truth to his concerns but, Would you prefer for humanity to not have developed Writing and Reading? From then on we've seen criticism for every new technology: the Radio, TV, newspapers, the Elevator, Cars, the Internet, etc, and now AI. They are tools. The problem is what it always has been: misuse, corruption. The people in power (or with power) that utilize those tools or promote them in ways to enrich themselves and keep themselves in power. Like how in the US politicians are lobbied (legal bribe) to not invest in public transportation and Train systems as to keep the use of gas high both in cars/trucks and air travel. That doesn't mean cars are inherently bad or that they're not necessary or convenient in today's society. Or the big corporations banking on AI to replace workforce & "save" money only to backfire. Ignoring the benefits of AI as a tool is as equally bad as ignoring the negatives of it.
