Mostly tired - mostly breaking things

Pretending to be a Sysadmin, GNU/Linux user since 2001, father of 3 current GNU+Linux users, lives in Sweden, Fascinated by strange hardware.

I am not on vacation, but I am at the end of a long time delay. I am
located somewhere on Earth, but as far as responding to toots is concerned,
I appear to be at the edge of the solar system.

I did a test in Romania, #meshtastic vs #meshcore and here is the quick summary: Over 250 Meshtastic nodes found, compared to 70 Meshcore nodes. BUT Meshtastic was basically dead, no one talked, or answered anything. I only got one message with the following - "test" Compare that to Meshcore, where I got hundreds of messages and people where fast to give me recommendations regarding restaurants and places worth to visit. The meshcore coverage was also great, with some repeaters on mountain tops (2000 meters high) that connected the bigger cities to each other. Connection to Bulgaria and Serbia was also working great. My TL;DR conclusion is that people set up a Meshtastic node, then get bored and forget about it, while people that wants more, and really gets into offgrid-mesh moves over to Meshcore #romania #mesh #offgrid

Time to print some Mother in law approved #meshcore nodes, inspired by this: https://louie.se/projects/stealthy-meshcore-builds-plastic-and-paint/ The plan is to place a node at someones place without the risk of them being annoyed by cables and stuff

I am once again looking at storage solutions for my homelab. Any suggestions? I would like something based on TrueNAS, with room for many 3.5" drives (SAS included). And if you live near Gothenburg - Sweden and have one for sale, let me know :)

We recently converted some of our infra-nodes to #meshcore , and now we have connected two (minor) cities in Sweden. Message delivery is more consistent compared to meshtastic on our case. The network is growing quite fast here in Sweden, and hopefully we will be able to connect with southern part later this year.

@iam_jfnklstrm@social.linux.pizzahttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netherlands_in_World_War_II Saxat: "German surrender in May 1945. The occupiers deported most of the Jewish Netherlanders to Nazi concentration camps.[2] Due to the variation in the survival rate of Jewish inhabitants among the regions in the Netherlands, scholars have questioned the validity of a single explanation at the national level. In part due to the well-organised population registers, about 70 per cent of the country's Jewish population were killed in the war" Notera att tyskarna kunde använda sig utav befintliga register för att lätt kunna indentifiera individer utifrån att man skrev ner vilken religion som individer praktiserade.

@galaxydinodragon@social.linux.pizza I dont handle the hosting itself for the mastodon instance anymore, but instead let toot.io manage it for me. It costs a couple of bucks more but it gives me peace of mind and good hardware too. https://toot.io/mastodon_hosting.html We have a custom plan since we are pretty big and well federated
