The Morbid Zoo made a video about the metaverse that i think works as a good companion piece to Folding Ideas' video about the same. I think where FI is really good at capturing how the specific incarnation of metaverses that happened during my lifetime where conceptual failures, tMZ is just fantastic at getting to the root cause of why anyone could've thought that bullshit was a good idea in the first place. like it's the diference between "text on a rewritable 2d surfece is just the maximally information-dense medium that we can invent right now" and "trying to make a medium that conveys maximum-reality rather then maximum information-density or maximum fitness-to-artistic-intent is a sign of this specific ideological failure". both analyses are important!
Zuck Never Understood the Metaverse
genuinely i think everyone perpetuating the smear campaign against patricia taxxon ought to never have a platform again
homestuck would be so good if it was good
rewrote my cock and balls to be object oriented
i'm realizing that my willingness to engage with any piece of media is directly proportional to how easy it is to get it for free
everyone would love me but i'm fucking ANNOYING!! but that's ok since i have chicks who dig me anyway for some reason.
gotta get to work queering the autism-schizophrenia spectrum
posts about the supposedly contradictory standards for when copyright law is or isn't enforced become trite as fuck when you notice that their is no contradiction since the law in question is enforced solely to the benefit of capitalists rather then any made-up bullshit like trying to punish "stealing" "ideas"
everything written about the security impacts of software dependency management immediately becomes trite the moment it was written unless it can answer the question of "what can we do about it that doesn't involve ether every maintainer ever burning out from having to reimplement the whole pie or shipping the pie in the standard library?". i super do not want to read the eleventh snarky blog post this week that points out that untrusted dependencies are bad without giving any suggestions for how to unfuck the situation. i'm seriously considering just writing off language-specific package managers entirely in favor of having a big distribution that can audit new versions of shit.
the person who made gnu would like to remind you to mention gnu more often whenever you mention the more famous invention of the guy he partnered with
if you subvert or deconstruct something without understanding what makes it compelling then your subversion/deconstruction will be ass. arguably the work that you produce might be compelling enough on its own to overcome this flaw (I have been told that Doki Doki Literature Club achieves this) but the subversive element will be ass.
i think every video essay script that has a section where the author talks about how bored or upset the viewer is could be made better by taking it out. no matter the length. just delete it! it's quick, easy, and frees up time you could use to say something that will contribute something to the world!
all you need to do to make a good story is have compelling themes and then write a good story
kill the Joseph Campbell inside your head
something quaint and charming about the fucked up shitty piano roll in the middle of Chonny Jash's cover of Variations on a Cloud. he forgot to select the right midi instrument sorry guys.
