I wonder how many people who read Blackle's I Found Evidence of My House Spinning went on to discover "Horse Autopsy with Lizzie McGuire Iceberg Explained" which is an unfiction video featuring the same character. That video is possibly my favorite piece of unfiction cus it has such a bizarre premise, but really delivers on it, about this doomed alternate reality where autopsy games are a popular children's passtime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PmV_di-3iA

If it seems like autistic people tend to make a big deal about being autistic... well, mostly that's just because if we don't people will just assume we're 'just weird', but at least speaking personally if I don't remind myself I'm autistic at least once a week, I'll start beating myself up for struggling with [insert everyday task here] as though I don't literally have "struggles with [insert everyday task here]"-disorder.

@kaisla@eliitin-some.fi I have been an amnesty international donor in the past and I will be again when they retract their apology and republish all their findings regarding the anti-rights movement in the UK in full unabridged form, until then I am more than happy to take my money elsewhere, to organizations that actually do stand up for trans rights, and I've sent them an email stating as much.

The funniest example of this phenomenon where fans will take any information said out loud by a character as gospel even though there's no indication whatsoever they are honest or know what they are talking about is the way people have devised explanations for for how Han Solos claim that his ship "made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs" could be technically accurate when not only is it likely that Han is full of shit judging by Obi-wans reaction, the script outright says so.

One aspect of social media bans and OS age restrictions for teenagers that I haven't seen brought up as much is just how profoundly insulting they are.
Like, teenagers have been RUNNING forums, chatrooms and microblogging instances and been maintaining operating system distros pretty much since it was remotely possible for them to do so.
To then have legislators turn around and treat you like a child, barring you from something you helped create is just the height of arrogance.

My favorite interpretation of Rouge the Bat is that she actually is not as endowed as her outfit is designed o lead you to believe, she wears shapewear because a) she likes it and b) you'll be surprised at how many gemstones you can smuggle out of a building when you can just stuff them in your bra without anyone noticing.

discussion of nuclear power
My issue with nuclear power isn't that I'm scared of it, it's that it's a source of power that's very convenient right now in exchange for a lot of problems later down the line and I know enough about human nature to know that if we don't work on a sustainable alternative right away, we're never going to until it's too late. That's the subtext behind most pro-nuclear advocacy: oh don't worry, it won't be a problem until long after you're dead.

The problem with the awawawa protocol of doll-to-doll connection is that awawawa for dollposting reasons and awawawa for flustered anime girl reasons mean slightly different things and that can shortcircuit some attempts at communication.

The main issue I have with a lot of amateur writing isn't any of the typical pitfalls like Mary Sue or bad grammar, it's that so much of it is simply describing the TV episode you're imagining in your head, and that's just not the most efficient use of the medium.
The main and most devastating weapon of prose fiction is the voice. Which point of view is used, word choices and metaphor, what details the narrator remarks on, what digressions they go on etc. is what makes a novel, and that's the reason why some novels are really hard to adapt.

The King in Yellow is my favorite "fictional book that will drive you insane with eldritch knowledge" cus it's not a musty tome of magic, it's a play and presumably written to be performed on at least some level.
The idea of giving a bunch of actors The Script That Will Drive You Insane is one of those things that's really funny at first and become gradually more horrifying the more you start thinking about the implications. Perfect premise for a cosmic horror story in other words.

It's always surprising to me to learn how relatively new the concept of a teenager is, it really doesn't enter common parlance until the 1940s and you can find clumsy articles from the time discussing this newfangled phenomenon of the teen-ager.
In retrospect it explains why youth culture starts to become a big deal starting in the 1950s and then really kicking into high gear in the 1960s, that's when you're really starting to get the first crop of people growing up to firmly think of themselves as teenagers and a separate category from their parents (as opposed to something closer to an adult that owes deference to age).
And it is very telling that many of the cultural developments since has involved taking more and more rights away from teenagers, folding them into the category of children as soon as they started challenging the status quo en masse.

The funniest aspect of art made by trans people is how obvious the metaphor can be without cis people clueing in to what's going on until it's literally spelled out for them.
The Matrix is a classic example, but The Amazing Digital Trapped in a Nightmarish Reality where Your Name and body is Arbitrarily Chosen To Reflect your Personal Insecurities is not far behind.

@jasmine@chaosfem.tw I see this happen with neurodivergence a lot too, neurotypical people will tell each other to say "people with autism" when me and most autistic people I know prefer to just be called autistic cus like... that's what we are, there's no need to dance around that.
"Person with autism" sounds to me like someone thinks of autism as like, an accessory, a thing you could remove from someone and still have the same person, and that's just not how I experience autism.

What seems to help a lot is if you keep in mind the genre the story is in. Cus like, as weird as Undertale/Deltarune gets, it never really stops being being a coming of age/adventure story, barring perhaps some horror elements here and there. Considering your theory from the lens of "would this make a satisfying plot point in a coming of age adventure story?" really ups your batting average significantly.

One thing about english as a second language that I find pretty cute is when someone is good enough at english that they can narrate and hold lengthy conversations in the language on a fluent level, but they don't have access to the more subtle ways of showing emotions and nuance that comes from it being your native language, and as such they end up having a slightly theatrical affect when speaking the language.
(I say they as if this isn't exactly how I speak when speaking in English, tho I think I'm usually more on the monotone side than the "community theatre version of myself" side.)

One fun thing about the Discworld fandom is the way they've created these extremely detailed and evolving reading order documents that track all the different sub-series of Discworld to help guide peoples reading experience (starting with The Colour of Magic and going in chronological order is probably not going to be the best experience. Most of them are standalone enough that you can probably just start reading with whatever book happens to look most interesting to you, then you can use one of the aforementioned guides to find the books in the series that are most like it in terms of characters and themes.)
I hope someone has done a paper that's just them compiling a bunch of these to see how they've evolved and if there are any taxonomic ambiguities.
