As a business that's had employees (we're Director run currently), reading the drinking culture report of MPs is insane (https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/aug/01/mps-stomachs-pumped-uk-parliament-alcohol-culture-report)
Any place of work providing any alcohol is bad idea imo but a few lines stick out:
"some MPs have had their stomachs pumped" - disciplinary, some paid time off, seek help, employer support
"drinking up to 200 units of alcohol a week" - as above
"suggested that parliament should draw up its first formal workplace policy on alcohol" - the "FIRST" policy? How do you have an institution hundreds of years old and you've never got round to writing a policy yet?
"Any changes to parliament’s provision of alcohol would ultimately be a matter for members to decide on" - wtf? You ask the alcoholics how much alcohol they should be allowed?
I'm generally against drug & alcohol testing at work but it does make me reconsider that stance. Just ban it at work, it's not like there are no other pubs in London which I'm sure will be happy for the business.

Just reported Google to UK's Competition and Markets Authority.
We're a de-googled business (as much as you can be), we intentionally remove any tracking of our customers who don't consent us to collecting data just to buy a bag of coffee.
We're lucky enough to come from a generation (90s) where the internet was good (it really was) and this philosophy of being able to go about life without every private enterprise spying is one of our core values.
Personally I always use F-Droid on android devices and have done for many years and choose their apps before those on Google's Play Store.
The changes Google want to force developers in to will make the web worse and give Google even more power is egregious.

Second time volunteering at a #Waverley Lakes #Parkrun today. Did pre-event set up which allowed me to run it too.
I did feel like a bit of a spare part as it was set up quite quickly by people who knew what they were doing but I will probably become that person one day - learn by doing/watching.

As a company that refuses AI, I think this maybe be a good idea if done correctly.
I've seen logos that say "No AI" but then crossed out. So AI?
But the problem with labels is that you often have to buy them. So the startup that is doing good things won't spend money on something unnecessary.
For example: We buy #coffee from farms that have organic practices or pay a fair trade but buying these labels and going through certification is a cost they can't afford.
Starbucks can have all their farms fair trade certified but few would agree that overall Starbucks are a fair company. But a small hold farmer with 5 to 10 acres growing exceptional coffee with organic practices can't command a price if we (the consumers) only buy "fair trade" and "organic" labels because that's the standard and everything else is assumed unfair.
Maybe as companies we need to get better at saying no AI, but you can only take our word for it. No one has verified us.
Adam is out meeting with a local cargo bike courier team to discuss them maybe doing some of our local Sheffield deliveries. As they're chatting about cargo bikes and coffee it might take a while!
