@neil@mastodon.neilzone.co.uk I can't help feeling that they could have solved 90% of the problem by simply requiring cancellation to be possible with the same ease as starting a sub.
The single thing that pisses most people off is "click here on this website to sign up", followed by "phone this well-hidden number and wade through 17 different 'retention teams' to cancel".
One pedal driving - where you only use the accelerator, push to go, release to stop - is, I would posit, the most radical and brilliant change to car controls since the invention of the automatic gearbox.
The only downside is, when you switch back to a "legacy" vehicle, it's deeply alarming to take your foot off the accelerator only to find that the car *doesn't*, in fact, slow down to a graceful stop.
(also, let's please normalise ICE cars as possessing "legacy engines")
Hmm. Once again I order something from an apparently UK-based website, only to find out - at dispatch time and not before - that it's actually coming from the Netherlands.
I mean I don't object to international shipping per se, but I do think websites should declare this kind of thing before you order.
The thing I find most disturbing about the current coverage of Chernobyl (other than bringing back a lot of memories) is that it's incomprehensibly 40 years ago.
I mean, I remember it very clearly. I can't be that old, can I?
I think we need to make it illegal for tills in shops to casually ask you to donate to charity when you're just trying to pay. Never anything more specific than "charity" of course - it'll just be what gives them they best tax benefits
@revk@toot.me.uk I'm assuming from the yellow that it's a gas main, but I haven't managed to read the sign when driving past!
@technicaladept@techhub.social @revk@toot.me.uk I mean sci-fi has always told me it was for fusion reactors, but I accept that such things have been a decade away for as long as I've been alive 😉
A good day of progress electricity-wise. Moved the right clamp so that the EV charger can take as much solar as it wants (previously it was lumped in with 'export' so got capped by our export limit, for ... reasons).
And WPD officially admit we're over voltage, and are "raising a reinforcement scheme" (which I think means "turning down the transformer a bit")
I'm very proud of how polite I just was when the Vauxhall garage called me up to book my Grandland's MOT - calmly telling them I no longer have the car, rather than screaming "you mean the one you had for months while I tried to sort out it the fact it had eaten it's own engine?!"
As a child (and frankly, adult) who (a) loved reading, and (b) hated being forced into fancy dress, World Book Day is a horrific idea that needs to die in the same fire as that fucking Elf.
I can genuinely think of no way you could have put me off books as a child more effectively then forcing me to "dress up as my favourite character"(*)
(*) limited, of course, by what i was willing to admit, and wear, and that my mum could possibly have fashioned
I'm so used to my phone just doing the right thing when I travel that somehow I forgot that it forced it's timezone to GMT at some stage.
So I spent the whole day in Malta thinking it was an hour earlier than it was, which wasn't a problem until we tried to go to our restaurant reservation...
Hmm, seems this SFP stuff isn't as plug and play as I hoped. So now I get to play "is it a faulty switch or an incompatible cable"...
Ooh, Bandcamp Friday for those who indulge - that day of the month where Bandcamp don't even take a cut so the musicians get even more of your money.
(this month I shall be filling out my IQ collection, which is unexpectedly sparse)
@dysfun@social.treehouse.systems the interesting thing is that until now, I've always read it as boo lee ann
I thought marketing consent had to be opt-in these days?
i.e. surely "Please tick this box if you would not like to receive offers by post from other trusted retailers" is against the rules?
@revk@toot.me.uk was it you that tried a petition requiring "all public bodies, notably councils, to publish a working email address"?
Because I just got a notification that it got rejected after they failed to get in touch with "the creator"
Does anyone know of anyone making *decaffeinated* Monsoon Malabar?
I'd be open to other single origins too, I suppose - it mostly seems to be Colombian that get decaf'd, and while I like it, it'd be nice to have some other options...
After the farce of ordering beer for Christmas (thanks to DHL being useless, I ended up with my original order delivered twice, and ordered a backup supply when they looked to never deliver) I am nearly getting the stockpile low enough to order some birthday beer.
That, combined with the overflowing whisky cupboard, suggests my drinking problem is largely one of inadequacy.
Just as I'm trying to remember how Blithub hangs together so I can move it to some new hosting, I'm getting me emails offering £1Bn of business loan - not gonna lie, it's tempting.
I know one swallow does not a spring make, and all that, but my BirdNet detected it's first housemartin which is almost as good!
