We argue that these issues are addressable in hardware; in fact, we find that the M4 already resolves the SIMD slowdown. Moreover, the slowdowns can be mitigated with simple software changes. With these software changes, the harmonic mean of per-application TSO slowdowns across our entire benchmark suite decreases from 4.2% to 1.9%.

We find that Apple silicon TSO mode preserves Arm weak-memory optimizations, typically yielding execution times within 3% of Arm mode across modern applications and classic benchmarks.

Cambridge's humanities departments are quite rotten - and it's not a single case, it's not just Jason Arday that ought to be fired but a far bigger problem.

Dr William O’Reilly, an associate professor in early modern history, was allowed to return to his job last term after telling a University tribunal that he copied around 4,000 words of his student’s essays “inadvertently” and “in a situation of extreme personal difficulty”.

As far as I can tell one of the big BeOS mistakes was having its API defined in C++.

Makes compiler updates harder than they should be, especially as C++ ABIs were far less stable back then

@Migueldeicaza > Controlled by the leftist Peronist party that’s run the country for most of this century, the government employs two out of every three workers in the province. That’s unambiguously a very bad situation. Oof.
