Remember when I said my DR setup should have me back up in 20-30 minutes? Yeah. About that. Turns out a backup job can run clean every single night for months and still not actually be backing up what you think it is. @AAKL@infosec.exchange it isn't. and it will likely be a problem for anthropic, perplexity, and petty much any others. Similar to how social media regardless of platform gets fake/spam accounts and scammers keep running fake numbers on the phone/text. it's "cheap" and it works.

@AAKL@infosec.exchange problem is part of the tradeoff for them to look impressive and do what they can do came at not addressing the abuse avenues. part of it's oops bugs and part of it is probably known but ignored to focus on what they were working on and part is honestly baked in to making that actually work at least in the time they wanted it.
Been away a bit (nixos2 drama, more about that soon), but the Paramount-Warner Bros. saga kept moving without me: EU cleared it with conditions, then Paramount agreed to freeze the whole deal until a trial happens — maybe not until June 2027. Both sides are calling it a win. Let's see why.

Xbox cut 3,200 jobs and divested five studios this week. Some are calling it bad luck, but it's not really— it's the bill for five years of buying studios it couldn't fund, cancelling exclusives, and giving away the ones that worked. And it just handed Sony a blank check on ending discs too.

So on Friday, the FCC quietly extended the foreign router firmware deadline to 2029. Why you may ask? Well the said that enforcing it would create cybersecurity risks.
I mean imagine that, unpatched hardware might be an issue....who knew? 🤷♂️
The new deadline lands 20 days before the next inauguration. Oh and I believe TikTok says hi.

@mrfoostang Meet is fairly new, and overall I'm not sure why they pivoted to it being so much on US based infrastructure — it opens up jurisdictional exposure they could probably have avoided. Stop Cop City shows the court filter in action. It works and more or less the Terms basically point towards it and similar actions. My main sticking point is the Marketing speak says something different. Thanks for reading 😀

The problem is also likely at this point they have the design and probably some internal early ps6 models done...likely with no drive. Given I think them and MS had originally wanted to launch them maybe this year.

my guess is they will want to go with this is a temporary uproar, give time they will move on
Bitwarden shipped a client update that requires Vaultwarden 1.37.0 — which also happens to close 8 medium-severity security advisories that don't even have CVEs assigned yet. Nixpkgs hasn't caught up. Stable currently points to 1.36.0. So I spent some time (unplanned) patching my server before the apps auto updated and relegated me to server website only.

Back in April I wrote about the gap between what "Hide My Email" implies and what it actually promises. Now we have a court case. Apparently Apple knew about a Hide My Email flaw for over a year, said it was fixed when it wasn't, and kept selling the feature the whole time.

I feel it was also a pivot from them blowing so much money and resources on live service failures. They panicked. Add seeing the prices climbing and the pending ps6, somewhat went oh crap and scrambled to pull in as much to say sony fans buy this anyway as they could.
Human-in-the-loop sounds like a safety net. It isn't. It's alarm fatigue in an understaffed ER, a driver watching a crash the car was supposed to handle, and a dev stamping a 30-file diff because it builds. Same failure, every time.

aside from it always seemed flaky to me on the phone anyway....I'd argue a third. The most logical spot would be with the screen. Now I'm not sure how much that could maintain the screen around that for screen use, but it would also be adding a point of leaving fingerprints, oils, and smudges on the screen. Yes I know it's a touchscreen and can get some....but really, how many people try to do much more with it that glance at time and notifications? Have you tried to use that joke of a kb?
