Because the outlying areas have more people than the town, I ssumed that would mean that more people got door delivery than didn't. But not true, it seems.

@duckbunny@wandering.shop Of all the AI tooling I use, copilot is remarkable in that it is very argumentative and surly. I ask it to do a task and give it some base code to work out. It tells me how shitty that code is without any context as to why it is written that way. It makes bizarre assumptions about what is happening outside the code and without any knowledge of what the inputs and outputs are. Getting copilot to do any actual work is a complete waste of time. Literally every other AI I use just does what I tell it without the fucking drama. It only has any users at all because M$ bundles all their shit so they can say they have users.

"Yeah, I can write this script or read this api doc but it's going to take me all day and you already know where to put the semicolons and you read faster than me, so take a shot at it." As a sysadmin I'm primarily writing glue code which can be complex but generally not so complex I can't eyeball it and pick out the problems. Writing a whole app would be scary for me. I also find it very useful to write configuration files, Ansible playbooks, and other infra supports like that which aren't executable code (but can still make a mess if not reviewed). I literally treat it like a junior team member,, although I tell at it more than I would a human 😃

I cracked a tough project today. It was the culmination of 2 months of work. It was only possible because a sloppy contractor left an unsecured private key in a place he thought I'd never look.

Two lessons:

1. Don't use the same key everywhere. I got the keys to the kingdom in one singular moment.

2. Obscurity is a valid security layer. People can't hit what they can't see. But defence in depth is what works. Obscurity can't be your only layer.
