@chrisamaphone@hci.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io ... that guy sent out an email to the whole audio department that read in part
"I don't understand why she made this decision, but I don't have to. WAS a part of the family and IS a part of the family and if you don't want to work with her you can request to be assigned to a different show but we are not going to make HER work around YOUR issues."
We are vast; we contain multitudes. And sometime the most unlikely folks do the right thing.

@chrisamaphone@hci.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io 25 years ago I worked for a company that did audiovisual for corporate meetings/events. And one of the audio freelancers transitioned, and sent an email to the audio department head letting him know what was up and that she'd understand if the company didn't want to hire her.
The audio department head, who was a raging homophobe who told me once that he voted Republican every election because he didn't want his son to see two men kissing and think that was OK… [1/2]

@kasperd@westergaard.social @inthehands@hachyderm.io A decade ago I was hiring for an entry-level tech position and I gave the HR rep a list of a couple of required skills and then eight "these would be nice to have/bonus points" skills. A week later zero resumés had crossed my desk and I called the HR rep. "Oh, we've gotten a bunch of applicants with the first couple requirements but none with all 10." I told him no more screening, just send me every resumé.

@YouShallNotPass@chaosfem.tw I want to live in a world where loving my trans stepkids isn’t a radical act. But also, I’m okay with being a radical when necessary.

@kaye@cathode.church NGL, you give me a little Karl Marx icon and I'm probably clicking it before I have any idea what it does.

@IanAMartin@mstdn.ca Since the bottom of the lighter books’ spines matches the darker books I suspect they were originally the same color and they were faded by sunlight or something similar.

@eldavephoto@dice.camp My last job where I was a hiring manager the rule was “if you made it to the interview, you got a personal response.” Rejection is always going to sting, and especially in this economy there are so many great people looking for work that it’s a crap shoot; the least we can do is be humane.

@valthonis@dice.camp I keep threatening my 20-somethings that I'm going to set up a simple timer + speech app that just reminds them to eat 3x/day. The struggle is real.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to working on my app to generate rival adventuring parties for #Dragonbane using #foundryvtt

@Printdevil @Taskerland @devilsjunkshop I think we can both expect it as a norm of the profession *and* recognize that it can be difficult to achieve and therefore offer positive reinforcement when people do the right thing.

@Printdevil @Taskerland @devilsjunkshop When I was in college, for one class on the history of Speakers of the House we read and wrote about the fall of Jim Wright and I was pretty unstinting in my criticism of Newt Gingrich’s role. My professor, a former R Congressman (‘69-‘82), gave the essay back with a note “You should know that I consider Newt a personal friend. Nonetheless, your paper is well written and your arguments are logical and well supported. A+” That’s my ideal academic approach.

@jbf1755@mastodon.social I’m in awe of their journalism skills and heartsick and ashamed that this is the world we’ve built for our children. They’re amazing, but they shouldn’t have to be — except that we built the society that forces them to contemplate the unthinkable and to endure the unendurable.

@martin@dice.camp It is designed to spiral inexorably toward apocalypse, but also you can... just not. There are mechanisms by which technology advances and moves closer to the apocalypse, but if you ignore those and just fix the setting at a certain magitech level it's a perfectly cromulent setting for quasi-Victoriana.

In addition to a history brain teaser, I can easily imagine using this as inspiration for #CallOfCthulhu #ttrpg games....

@dan@discuss.systems They look great, thank for the recommendation!
My one concern is that my dude is a little skittish and can take time to warm up to a new person, and since their model is using multiple sitters I'm not sure how he'd react. I'll ask them about their experience with that.
