Good morning from Kelpland. Perhaps you’d like to look at some beautiful seaweed and/or think about knowledge.

Too late for this update, but AFL-CIO Minneapolis is endorsing a general strike (or "statewide action") on Jan 23 over ICE/CBP violence.

It is roughly 5k words long and some of the densest abstract thinking I've tried to do in years and I started drafting it while still in the last huge year-end push at Unbreaking.org and finished this morning.
I am toast. See you in January!

I cannot make a bespoke action plan for your exact situation, but if you feel like what you're doing is pointless, there are options.
If you need to yell about how frustrated you feel, I respect that! (Perhaps consider my well-honed spiritual practice of Hollering Into A Tree or the classic urban alternative, Bellowing Down That Storm Drain.)
Many of us are working with stark limitations of all kinds. But most people can do *something*, and in my experience, when we do it often helps.

@tomjennings@tldr.nettime.org I think that has to be part of it—we stabilize against erosion by building up root networks and I think about that all the time.

@johnzajac@dice.camp I’m inclined to give people a whole lot of leeway on health stuff, but there’s a still point past which it’s still bad and counterproductive behavior.
Most of what I see here (and most of what I mentioned) is people exercising social discipline because someone else drove a car, linked to youtube, posted on another network, expressed excitement about voting, or used an iphone. As someone who grew up in fundamentalist purity culture, I think that stuff is classic purity culture. 🤷🏻

@jessamyn@glammr.us People who can't physically go this week—like me, stuck on the wrong side of a snowy mountain pass several hours away from the nearest one—can definitely be calling. Takes 60 seconds, one issue per call with a clear single request for action!

@blaise@hachyderm.io D reps definitely need to hear from their constituents—they need numbers to back decisions, and they need to hear what matters most to the people they serve. I'm incredibly fortunate to have 2/3 of my reps be some of the best in Congress, but they still need those calls. (And I have to kick the third one a little.)

@elana@babka.social Augh ❤️❤️❤️
I’m truly okay, my skin thickens back up fast! But I’m such a network nerd that whenever I see problems I start thinking about them in network-wide terms.

@joriki@infosec.exchange I think for me it’s a question of whether posting is my best lever, or something else. Opsec in service of specific plans is different from…idk, general cowering? But it’ll be a personal call for lots of people, and many can’t choose to be low-visibility.

@alberto_cottica Thank you! And that feels right to me, at least—realistic humility about our cognition seems like a first step toward building toward more stable and resilient ways to know things.
