Ken and I are thrilled to share that our family has grown! 💜🌟
Our son, Rai Larson Ithiphol, was brought into the world on Friday, December 2, 2022, by an incredibly generous surrogate, to whom we are eternally grateful. (Rai is pronounced like “rye” or “chai.”)
We love him very much.
Over on the bird app, my announcement of the birth of our child was met with tons of happily supportive posts, but also a fair number of grossly homophobic and virulently anti-surrogacy posts. I can safely say that here on Mastodon, I’ve only seen happily supportive posts, so thank you all for that! #SafeSpace #Fatherhood #Joy #IAmNowCoParentingATinyHuman
Spike has let us know his time on this planet is coming to an end. I am heartbroken & also forever grateful to him for his 19 years of wonderful companionship. He’s fought & won many other health battles over the years, but kidney failure has beaten him this time. 💔💔💔#Cats #Kitties #SayingGoodbye #EndOfLife #BelovedPet #KittyCompanion #Grief #Love
There have been far too many messages from folks offering congratulations & loving kindness in the wake of yesterday’s announcement for me to be able to respond to everyone. But thank you!!! It’s already been an incredible journey, & it’s only the very beginning… #fatherhood #SameSexParents #TwoDads #Baby
Ken and I have been talking about whether or not to post photos of Rai on our social media accounts. We don’t want to expose him to the sort of vitriol and hatred that is possible online, and at the same time, we want to celebrate him, and we want to share images of our family as a way to advocate for same-sex parenting and surrogacy. So we don’t know the answers yet, but I wanted to share where we are with it at the moment, which is weighing all of the different factors at play.
I have to admit, it’s pretty wild seeing such momentous events compressed into a timeline. There was such a clear cut *before* and *after* as my life was utterly transformed by being in RENT all those years ago. I celebrate & explore all of that (& more) in my show #WithoutYou
For folks looking to come to see my show #WithoutYou at the #OffBroadway #theatre #NewWorldStages — here’s a #BlackFriday deal for tickets. Visit withoutyoumusical.com for more information.
@Extra_Special_Carbon@mastodon.world I do as well. Sorry to hear of this.
