I'm not a sceptic who just walked away from Omelas and is criticizing it from the outside. I actually live there right in the centre, and am a valued member of its society that is worried!

While the general statement is true, the line underneath undercuts the statement a bit. "I use these tools as well all the time". Okay but if you know that they undercut your ability to think ... why? What the fuck are we doing?
Open quoted postBike routes on old railwaylines are awesome. Sometimes a little monotoneous, but very scenic.
Sometimes they make me sad because I imagine an alternative world where there's still trains running on all those lines.

1b) I check my tires before every ride, mostly with my finger, or by checking how the bike bounces back when I press it against the floor. (So no gauge normally...)

Ich würde bestimmt auch nach einer "gewissen Zeit" austauschen. Nicht ganz so eng wie der Hersteller das sieht, aber nach 3-4 Jahren. Bisher war das Kriterium aber nie relevant weil es immer vorher sichtbare Mängel bzw. Stürze gab.

What I'd like to have a reasonable explanation for is how it's possible that a railway company in a centralized state like France is pushing this complexity on their customers, and can't make that reservation when booking the ticket.
