Here's an interesting bug. When I dig cdn.miau.pub with the @9.9.9.9 flag, I get the proper A record in response. When I do it without, and rely on DNS over TLS provided by the same 9.9.9.9 service, I get an SOA response.
In real world terms, that means all the masto stuff hosted there is inaccessible to me. That's mildly annoying.

I would use a random no-cache read to achieve this, though, and do it with systemd. Although we rightly hate systemd, it *is* easier to configure - and there's a nice guide on timers here: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-schedule-tasks-with-systemd-timers-in-linux (just make sure you run it as root, not as a user-level script)
As for the script to read from the device, that's fairly simple:

Using an external solution, which I presume is USB, is only ever going to cause you headaches even if you mount it from fstab. I have similar bother with my externals, I can't run anythjng from them reliably no matter how much I fiddle.

Given language is already a super switched-on process for me thanks to having a fair bit of the 'tism, you can imagine how much longer it takes for me to process numerals than it does to read a dial. Waterfox is forked from Firefox, so substantial security updates are included. The more urgent ones might take an extra day or so, sure. Accessibility is certainly something to think about, but again I don't think it's non-existent whatsoever. The lad who compiles Waterfox has been active for years now, and in some cases has provided a better experience than Firefox - see https://www.theregister.com/software/2021/11/04/waterfox-a-firefox-fork-that-could-teach-mozilla-a-lesson/1355827
It's obviously not going to meet the same standards as Mozilla define, and in that sense I understand the reticence to point people in that direction, but at the same time a lot of support comes from an active community - so increasing the size of the userbases of smaller browsers will vastly improve their support and accessibility networks. Chicken and egg, perhaps.

He made whatever decisions that put him in such a position to be easily compromised, presumably some prior involvement with crime. He made the assumption that two brown lads were probably in on it. He shot them. He possessed a firearm. Am I missing something here?

The "new" castle was built on the rough site of the old motte and bailey castle that was part of Pons Aleus, the northernmost defensive line of the roman invaders/slaughterers/usurpers. The keep itself became the point of passage between the occupied and free regions of Northumbria, with the entire length of the boundary "protected" by Hadrian's wall. Some of the wall still exists, although the wall proper was partially dismantled at some point in history, with the region around the new end of the wall aptly named "Wallsend". Interestingly enough, north of the wall is now far more affluent than south of the wall, which feels like just desserts given the slaughter and loss of cultural history that the christians inflicted upon us.
