Three sacred cows that must die so Europe can live

The decline of Europe is not inevitable, despite how much Americans love to joke/proclaim that the continent is doomed to become an open-air museum. Sure, it

I love simple and usable software. Lazycut¹ enters my toolset today. A brilliant tui for ffmpeg: cut a video, and convert (can change aspect).
LosslessCut² and Handbrake³ are good, but they have more features than I need

RE: @hister@chaos.social

This tool has literally changed and improved my posture for public web searching. Hister's search box is now the default search in my browser, and with 6 months of history it satisfy all my recall queries. I don't use browser bookmarks anymore, as I can search everything quickly.

I have mixed feelings when I learn more things reading a SKILL.md from a whatever github repo than from the original software documentation.

Pagefind v1.5.0-beta.1 (pre release) https://github.com/Pagefind/pagefind/releases/tag/v1.5.0-beta.1
This release adds UI components https://ui.pagefind.app/

small/medium library collections, that are rarely updated, could benefit by adopting this tool. it's fast, simple, low maintenance.

Does robots.txt still matters? Short answer: yes.
A wrong committed robots.txt and Googlebot (real bot, verified IP block) can hammer an application (Solr server CPU in the graph), until an aggressive rate limit is applied.
End of the story: the application queries should be improved.

Pagefind¹ 1.5 is out! Most notable feature I see now (or maybe was already there?) is searching from multiple sites²

> Pagefind can be configured to search across multiple sites, merging results and filters into a single response. Multisite search configuration happens entirely in the browser, by pointing one Pagefind instance at multiple search bundles.

PDFphilia
An intense fondness or obsession with the preservation and accumulation of digital documents in #PDF format, often resulting in the excessive hoarding of electronic files and reluctance to transition to more modern document formats."

I see a very uniform design among recent blog posts.
Does this "Claude style" have a name?
Is it beautiful? Doesn't matter, we have lived a decade with Bootstrap

@samwilson@wikis.world I agree with the print option. Even if we adopt minimal technology (plain HTML or better text files) and replicate to multiple hosts (without the guarantee that they will be operational in future) the problem of discoverability remains: how will we know the addresses of these copies? We probably needs to print the addresses somewhere, too.

Ask HN: How to make my website exist for 100 years?
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46642372

The comments are funny, but the question is legitimate.

And €38,500 for a 100 years wordpress hosting https://wordpress.com/100-year/ ? I wouldn't trust them.

@Edent@mastodon.social Readium's position on communicating these flaws is not brilliant, even worse is the threat to avoid publication. But consider that LCP is not just a DRM for vendors, it is widely used for digital lending in public libraries, even the Internet Archive uses it. If publishers lose confidence, that means they might decide not to lend digital content to libraries (where people read freely) Your research is good and should be used to collectively improve the ecosystem https://github.com/edrlab/thorium-reader/discussions
