@gelliottmorris.com Even here on Mastodon we seem to have a good number of doomers, both-sides-ers and do-nothings. But we could turn a lot of this around, if only we could unite against the fascist #republican party. What they and #trump have been doing isn’t popular and is wrecking the world. The rest of us literally outnumber the fascist party’s ranks. It’s not hopeless, we just need more people to stand up and help oppose them.

Taking away as many of their government seats as we can. Showing them there is a cost for what they’ve been doing. Sending a clear message that the American people disapprove of them. It’s worth working towards, worth striving for. Don’t be idle.

@mastodonmigration I’m over on #Bluesky quite a bit. No one in the feed I’ve created seems to give a damn about crypto, despite what some here on Mastodon would have me believe. I’m still here because I believe in the potential of #Mastodon, but the truth is that some of the same trolls and tribalism can be found here as in a lot of other places. I wonder if that undercuts arguments about how social media operates under the hood.

@benroyce@mastodon.social @GoSeiGer@mastodon.nl @randahl@mastodon.social I think a long time ago four vile schoolchildren, and a guy who made both-sides-ing jokes about the news on a daily show (and some other sources too, not just them) helped create an atmosphere of cynicism that still plagues us today. Anything that encourages people to at least try participating again is welcome. Gotta make people realize they are inside a machine they can change via collective action.

@michael@backend.newsmast.org I worry that the technical arguments for decentralized social media are being overshadowed by the quality of the existing communities. People who come here and encounter regulars who are screaming that Joe Biden drinks the blood of children probably aren’t going to stick around, and may even conclude that the open social web is identical to Twitter. If the existing communities pushed back harder against its bad actors, maybe more people would see that, and engage more.

@mastodonmigration Speaking as someone who has watched people be bullied off this platform, the bigger problem is that people may be less likely to look under the hood of how a social media website operates if on the surface level the interactions aren’t much different. Trading abuse from Trumpers (on X for example) for abuse from both-sides-ers isn’t much of a trade at all. Hopefully more people will understand that they themselves are the face of Mastodon, and act accordingly

@samlitzinger@journa.host This doesn’t have to be complicated: Many of these challengers found victory because they pledged to *fight*, to push back against the #trump regime, to try and stop all this shit. We need to keep pushing the rest of the #Democratic party to get on that train, and explain that the cost of not doing so will include, among other things, losing their seats.

The #Trump regime is in power right now, today, and they are doing fascist shit and inflicting real harm on real people. @cstross@wandering.shop Reminder to the #republican party and any of its coalition: there aren’t special rules for distributing CSAM if your name is Elon #musk and you use a computer program to propagate the CSAM. You can argue the technicals in court like everyone else would have to.
