@GeofCox@climatejustice.social I like the canal analogy. Money is the water in the canal. The government pumps it in at the top and it flows out as tax a the bottom. Controls are required to keep the canal from running dry or flooding. It becomes obvious that individuals taking water out of the canal and hoarding it is a bad thing. Giving more money to people who spend it is not.

@AlexGallagher@mastodon.scot I have to say, if someone has to pay you £5 million to campaign for something you truly believe in you probably didn’t truly believe in it at all.

@Geri @Remittancegirl @ApostateEnglishman While there is large group of out and out racists, I think #brexit said more about how uninformed our society is. The Brexiters said everything, every easy answer to every difficult question but they said it in such a way that people who didn’t look to closely could pick what they thought they wanted to vote for and ignore the rest. ‘Not what I voted for’ is a common cry amongst those who voted out and even then it only just got over 50%.

@raymierussell @mikebabcock @fuzzygroup @digitalraven how about : making huge sculptures out of car tyres becomes a fashion fad and billionaires bought up all the world’s tyre production for the next year in order to build bigger and more ridiculous giant car tyre sculptures.

@peterfisherbooks@disabled.social @GeofCox@climatejustice.social I think you could say it’s like the market for bottled water; it’s not really connected to the canal network but if it gets too popular and they start draining the aquifers …

@Geri@mastodon.online @Remittancegirl@mstdn.social @ApostateEnglishman@mastodon.world I think the other side of this is that Leave promised everything to everybody. Multiple often mutually exclusive options. Whatever anybody asked for they said #brexit would deliver. In essence they just out and out lied to everyone about everything counting on the fact that most people expect lies from politicians and aren’t really listening. It’s not a failure of recent politics but the culmination of the last 50 years of political failure.

@Remittancegirl @Geri I can remember the sense of despair I felt when people voted for Brexit and the ongoing support for Farage’s easy answer politics. Domestic and depressing.

@Remittancegirl @runoutgroover @Geri thanks for explaining your point of view rather than just rage blocking. I can see you a re saying but I think the not being possible to see a brighter future is more to do with world politics than domestic. Back then we only had nuclear Armageddon and the thee minute warning. Kids now have that AND ecological breakdown and global war. I feel for them.

@Remittancegirl @runoutgroover @Geri the Thatcher era was great apart from the poverty, unemployment, class war, riots and dissolution of any kind of business law. Oh and the turning the police into the de facto military wing of the Tory party. Apart from that and the fact that long tail of Thatcherism is behind many of the problems we face today not only in this country but all over the world, it was great.
