I'm shocked to see something in the news that legitimately makes me happy.

Just a reminder (again) that #Obama already did what #Trump wants to do now with #Iran, and he did it without killing anyone, without threatening genocide, without upending the world economy, without alienating our allies, without strengthening #Russia, and without emboldening Iran. But Trump couldn't let a Black man's success stand, so here we are in a complete cluster fuck just so a #racist can try to take credit for something that was already done.
For #citations in lit reviews, #APA and #ASA styles both suggest past #tense whereas #Chicagostyle suggests present. Despite this, I can't recall ever seeing past tense used in any #academic #articles or #books, not even in the ASA's flagship #journal, #American #Sociological Review. Even when a standard is explicitly codified, it appears that those doing the codifying don't strictly adhere to it but are not criticized for these oversights.
Pretty amazing cover from back in 1968.
I have the hardest time reading W.E.B. Du Bois's name as [dubɔɪs] rather than [dybwa].
@amyfou@lingo.lol @linguistics@fedigroups.social Interesting! Is this student (more or less) a native English speaker, too?
Why is #ColeAllen's #manifesto being described as anti-#Christian in the #media? He literally describes himself as a Christian in it and thanks his #church. Are we really just gonna parrot whatever characterization #Trump gives of this guy?

For a sec, I was wondering what this company Zigzag had done. A lack of #titlecase would probably help some #headlines.

A good example of where Young's idea *was* put into practice is Alim's (2016) chapter on transracialization. His divergences from an academic writing style come mostly in the form of apical -ing, lexical choices, and some minor syntactic choices.
Alim, H. S. (2016). Who’s Afraid of the Transracial Subject? Raciolinguistics and the Political Project of Transracialization. In H. S. Alim, J. R. Rickford, & A. F. Ball (Eds.), Raciolinguistics: How Language Shapes Our Ideas About Race (pp. 33–50).
It's bad enough that #boxing promoters have embraced #SaudiArabia's #sportswashing, and I understand why fighters who risk their lives would want more money for taking those risks, but even #Netflix is involved with facilitating their sportswashing.
It's worth remembering just how far #US #politicians will go to protect the #profits of #capitalists and insulate those capitalists from repercussions even when that means letting them murder #workers for going on #strike as in the #Ludlowmassacre.
