Wow, #Graphite has come a long way:

https://graphite.art/

Graphite is an open source vector #graphics #editor and #animation engine, written in #Rust which is on its way to a first beta release! Super exciting! :awesome:

When you scroll down a bit on their website, they show off some of their recently added features in a video (my facial expression during the whole duration of the video: 😮).

What a bunch of creative folks! :party_sparkles:

#LLMs are not a knowledge base!

Stop spreading misinformation!

They are statistical models that _simulate_ knowledge!

We, as a #society, really have to pay attention to the words and #language we're using.

But I guess, when talking about LLMs, details are not really important, are they!? Oh, such beautiful irony!

*makes some happy screaming noise* :awesome: :ferris:

#Rust will end this year with a long awaited feature that will define it's future:

We will get "async fn and return-position impl Trait in trait" (#AFIT & #RPITIT).

It will be stabilized in the next #RustLang version 1.75, which will be released on 28 December, 2023.

https://releases.rs/docs/1.75.0/

PR:
https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/115822

Thank you Rust #community for all of your hard work! ❤️

@matze@mastodon.social Yes, that's true.

However, writing the desugared version in the trait is still compatible with using async fn in the trait impl, so the "burden" is more on lib maintainers.

Also this problem only applies when the Self type is generic.

And Send is only required, if one decides to use a multithreaded rt.

I highly recommend the following article by @notgull@hachyderm.io about smol:

Why you might actually want async in your project

https://notgull.net/why-you-want-async/

#Rust #RustLang #RustAsync #AsyncRust

Why you might actually want async in your project
notgull

Why you might actually want async in your project

There is a common sentiment I’ve seen over and over in the Rust community that I think is ignorant at best and harmful at worst.

@luna@lunar.place I think in the case of `&Box` deref coercion happens under the hood, so yes it works too, but in the end the method is called on `&dyn ...`, not &Box. Simple example to show that one can call trait object methods on &Box (via automatic deref coercion): https://play.rust-lang.org/?version=stable&mode=debug&edition=2021&gist=b1cb5a760c46da62bca9be0e1a8d28f5

@luna@lunar.place I think it should, yes! One thing, I'm not _quite_ sure about, is that you are trying to call the method on `&Box`. I _think_ (again, not sure) it must be `&dyn Component` instead, so instead of: c.downcast_ref::() try: c.as_ref().downcast_ref::()

@jolla So I've received the e-mail with the discount code and my personal link. Here is what I did:

  1. Clicked on the link
  2. Choose additional accessories and put them in the cart
  3. Try to apply my personal discount code => Error: "Please enter a valid discount code"

Jolla phone batch #3 shows up in my cart (together with the chosen accessories) and the order was apparently complete.

What's the deal with the discount code that couldn't be applied, though?

Thank you for any clarification.
