@tom7 I will say that your statement of "how hard could it be to roll you own crypto" quickly followed by "the professionals can even do it right" are quite the complimenting pair lmao

@dramforever I believe that the CPU itself sometimes will schedule actions out if order so even if you have 0 optimizations compile side the CPU will still do its own

@frameworkcomputer y'all should take a look at the bad things they people involved with hyperland are up to and reconsider supporting them

@micahilbery@mstdn.social 3. I don't think the theft argument is as strong as we wish it is. Intellectual property is still property, and property, is theft. If you make art, or write a book, or I write code (or give my attempt at what you could call art) I don't own it, I was the first person to make it but that does not give me the sole rights to do whatever I want with it. It is not mine. It is an idea that exists and no one owns ideas. IP exists to protect large companies not small independent producers

@micahilbery@mstdn.social 4. If AI could solve the "needing other people" problem its much worse then the now of wanting to pay people less. We literally just invented slaves again but look we found a new way to say they aren't people so its def okay this time.

@hazel I have been trying (and failing) to use nix Darwin on my work laptop for about 2 weeks now. (technically trying for 3 months and finally got it to work with ITs custom certificates 2 weeks ago)

@pathunstrom god I wish that question of "definition" had a useful answer. Life would be a hell of a lot easier
:awoo:
how is it that literally every single time my co workers do a work trip a handful of them always without fail get sick and somehow none of them wear masks?
I need to get to know more lesbians then my ex so I have someone to talk about lesbian breakup songs with
nothing like finally getting to folding that laundry bin of clean clothes that you have been living out of and putting new clean clothes on top and finding a piece of your ex's clothes that still smells like them to completely kill your productivity for the rest of the day
HOA why the hell did you go with some BS proprietary access control system that has a subscription, doesnt actually have a functioning intercom system, doesnt give me access to look at the cameras, is not locally owned or at least end to end encrypted, and doesnt notify me when things are getting delivered.
i wish the person who stole the package for the wagon I bought as an accessibly aid for getting groceries an explode in hammers

@csolisr I have issues walking some days and I wish my city did this. An electrically assisted micro mobility device that is safe around pedestrians is significantly cheaper then a car

@lcamtuf@infosec.exchange does ⋛ match null values? If you were to do that in SQL with 2 and statements it wouldn't match null

@Techaltar@mas.to its so useful for any refractor that isn't describable with a type 2 grammar but not much else and I wish people would get that. But the flip side is a lot of those useful things would be better solved by dedicated tools it would just take so so many tools to memorize to do so

@yoasif@mastodon.social blog posts written by you are not sources. The copy right things are about anything without any creative input from a person. If you are in the driver seat on making the changes which you need to be to fully undstand it then there probably is no copyright issue. Maybe try using someone other then shit you pulled out of your ass as a source. There literally is no case law on this yet any claim saying for sure in any direction right now is lying to you

@micahilbery@mstdn.social l few thoughts I have on this thread some agreeing some disagreeing:
- the "it needs to be open sourced" is a facebook line. Open weights is not open source stop letting them tell you it is
- I feel like a lot of the "but just open source it" comes from people who think having a server in their spare room is a 100% normal thing that most people can do. Its not. Most people cant throw 5k at computing gear and high uptime power and internet.
