@ajroach42 I wonder how many older conservatives in decision making positions have been exposed to difficult questions by their children or grandchildren, due to what these young people have reading/watching. Somehow I think this has a non-zero effect on all this, I just wish there were enough people in positions to point out how stupid all this control is.

Maybe they have whole other life in the lamp and randomly get pulled out while boiling pasta, that could be a problem.

@smallcircles I have had endless 'discussions' in non-tech related orgs using big tech for office related tasks, and I have consistently lost the arguments, mostly due to some type is 'convenience' position, even after implementing FOSS solution which have been successful in the orgs. My personal opinion on licensing is release everything under non-commercial, no profit can be extracted from the use of the tool. cut capitalists out entirely. I don't know if this makes a diff though. 2/2

@notjustbikes @LovesTha There was and interesting conversation between Robert Scheer and Thomas Bass (who wrote a book on Fukshima) I have not fully investigated the assertions from Thomas, but he posits that nuclear was never viable, it was only ever a subsidy to enable weapons, there are obviously other positive and negative outcomes from nuclear, but this seems credible from my cursory understanding. https://podcasts.captivate.fm/media/8b142d79-e9a0-474f-a9b0-42ea71256169/bob-and-bass-june-26-2026.mp3

Everyone should give @ARG@kolektiva.social some serious love and donations.

They have a number of books which they read and are available as audiobooks on youtube (for want of a better platform).

Including "What Is Antiracism?: And Why It Means Anticapitalism," by Arun Kundnani.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vifzr8fsLME

It is well worth a listen and if you can pick up the book from verso.

It is time to admit that allowing websites to run embedded code on your computer was a terrible idea!

It was a terrible idea when we first did it, it is a terrible idea now, and at every point in the future it will be a terrible idea.

Anyone proposing that you should use AI in your job.

Consider what it would look like if the AI was a person. You get them to do something for you, you then correct them. Whether they know it or not, they are getting you to train your replacement.

Now if you think of this person as capital of a heavily indebted corporation. It will end up screwing you our of a job and screwing your employer out of money.

On top of that, this thing has no understanding of your job, it will probably fail.

So going to a website I get the message:

"AI scrapers break the web, to use this page you'll need JavaScript enabled."

I get what you are trying to do, but there must be a better way to do this, because it could be just as accurate to say:

"Data can be scraped, to see the data you have to execute this arbitrary code on your computer."

I don't know what this code does, I don't know who it communicates with and I don't trust my web browser to protect me. We are at an impasse.

@JohnnieMac@mastodon.scot @ScottishGreens@mastodon.scot Why the russophobia, were they also responsible for the guilded age, which was alleviated by a wealth tax (~90% top rate) in the 50's in the US? Also if charity could solve a distributional issue like this, it would have done so already. I would argue business leaders are never benevolent, otherwise they wouldn't have built the empires they have.

If you work in a position, and you fuck it up so epically you have to resign, you generally don't get to hand it over to your mate.

Why does this seem to be the way it works for the Prime Minister of the UK, can we not just leave it vacant for a bit until someone who can actually do it comes along.

It may actually give the entire nation a bit of respite.

@LevZadov@kolektiva.social @jeremy_pm@mastodon.nz @bob_zim@infosec.exchange @Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt It is a good quote. The quote is in reference to being embedded in an active war and it illuminates war propaganda. I think it is worth noting that this does not apply universally. Given freedom from war propaganda many people don't believe this. States wouldn't need the media and propaganda apparatus if this were universal.

@LovesTha @notjustbikes If I remember the figures from Thomas, it was a while since I listened to it, the cost of nuclear excluding build, disposal, and decommissioning is about $170 /MWh where solar is about $40 /MWh inclusive. *I will probably listen to it again today and correct later.* He describes it as "the most expensive way to boil water." *I edited from what Thomas said in the recording, I had guessed too low on nuclear and too high on solar.*
