@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social Do we have a legal definition of a 'social media platform' yet? It seems like ministers are keen on passing vague laws, but not on getting into detail.

@pluralistic@mamot.fr Absolutely this. I'm sure there's a straight line to be drawn from the 2008 financial crisis (and particularly the government's response of austerity) to the 2016 Brexit vote; through to today's horrifying position of Reform potentially coming into power in a couple of years. 18 years of declining public services, flatlining wages & visible corruption of parliament (most apparent under Johnson) has left the people bitter & angry.

@maxwells_daemon@infosec.exchange For what it's worth, I'd say start with HTML & CSS (I promise CSS isn't bad once you get used to it). You can do some fun stuff with just that, then add some plain JavaScript later when you need it. Less of a learning curve than going straight into a modern framework, and unbeatable speed from a low-power server.
Created a list on Hardcover based on an article in an old EDGE back issue (EDGE 275, January 2015) - recommended gaming books.
Lots of interesting-looking books in there, including a load I hadn't heard of.
Just a quick reminder - today's the last day to provide responses for the UK gov consultation on further age verification requirements (e.g. verifying to be able to use VPNs or to access the internet past bedtime):

@Whiskeyomega@cupoftea.social Fantastic album. I only have CD, not vinyl, but I certainly know what I'll be listening to tomorrow.

@memoriesin8bit@mastodon.gamedev.place As a general dev thing, rather than a gamedev thing, I'd say that whichever one you go for, take the time to document the decision, along with the other options, so that you can refer back to it down the road if you find yourself questioning the approach. Also, store the notes (an ADR, or architectural decision record) somewhere that you'll be able to find it!
