🤔 I can't think of any other bullet points
If you have a website, you can add a dark mode to it with this single #CSS rule :
html{
color-scheme: light dark
}
It will automatically adapt all background elements which don't have a background color already specified in the CSS, as well as the text color, to match the theme of the device! That's super useful if you spin up a quick project and don't want to spend a long time styling it! I use it on all of my new projects since I found this!
I'm happy to say that @StopKillingGames@mastodon.social is against the age verification laws that are passing in various locations recently!
Games like Urban Dead are shutting down because they cannot comply with such laws, like the Online Safety Act, and this makes preservation projects harder to do legally, while requiring collection of personal sensitive data just to access something that shouldn't know your real identity.
That's awesome news!

Set your site's font-family to system-ui and this will use the device's default font!
Great for when :
- You don't care about font but don't want Times New Roman because it looks bad
- You want to integrate the site better with the user, as they may have a special font that they like on their system and you just reuse this!
Since I'm in the EU, I don't have the new AI stuff on Google everyone is talking about and saying is broken lately, but I have heard of a trick that will disable AI on the result page, and it's putting &udm=14 at the end of a google search URL. No idea if that works but you can try! (And tell me if it does!)
Edit : Apparently, if you don't want to set the parameter every time, you can use https://udm14.org by @tedium@social.tedium.co or also change your location to somewhere in Europe like France in Google's settings (but this will also change the location of results, so for example looking for train tickets would direct you to the french rail company).
A cool new project of mine!
A while ago I got a piano keyboard with backlit keys to try and learn to play some songs without worrying about learning musical notation, but the thing is, it only came in with a few preinstalled songs and no way to add new ones. There is an app for it, but it only lights the keys right when you're supposed to hit them, which kinda defeats the purpose of lighting them up, right? Usually, you would want the keys to be lit in advance so you can prepare yourself to hit the key!
Thankfully the keyboard has USB connectivity so I managed to figure out how the key's light data is sent, and whipped out a quick app that uses a midi file and plays it while lighting the keys in advance! I managed to do in an afternoon what the official app developers never added, so that's cool! Take a look! (Yes the setup is janky and I play bad, it's hard to play while filming)

Ever wondered why #mastodon has different trending feeds on every instance?
Do you want an easy way to see the posts for a same hashtag across many instances?
Well I do! So I made my own #frontend that allows you to pick multiple instances or accounts and see a single timeline from all of them! It's a #wip for now so it's a bit rough around the edges. Take it as a beta!
- The search bar currently only support direct post URLs
- Custom emojis and some icons may be missing
- Polls, videos and content warning text is not yet supported
- Posting and replying is currently supper barebones
- Some issues with scrolling
- But you can see multiple timelines in one place!
- Works offline once you loaded the app once!
- Can favourite, boost and bookmark!
- Material design! Takes your device's color scheme and applies it to the site!
- When most of the stuff is fixed I'll open source it.
Try it out! Tell me what you think!
RE: @StopKillingGames@mastodon.social
Ah yes, #ubisoft along with others from Video Games Europe (a lobbyist gtoup) is hosting a closed meeting with the @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu and this happens less than a week before the date where a decision would need to be made on the @StopKillingGames@mastodon.social initiative. What a coincidence!
SKG objects and I think it's for the best.
Updates for my media downloader extension!
Hi all! I'm the developer of my FOSS extension for Firefox : Media Downloader Unleashed!! It's been a while since I shared my progress about the developpment here but better late than never! ![]()
- You can still download m3u8 and mpd streams as offline video files!
- There is now an option to hide stream segments in the media list. In case you want to download the segments manually
- Multiple updates to make the extension and its downloads faster : By listening to what the server responds when requesting media and saving it, the extension does not need to replay the network request. If you play half a video on a website and start a download, it will only need to download the other half!
- There is support for multiple languages! Right now french and english are fully translated and german and portuguese are parially translated.
Try it at https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/media-downloader-unleashed/?utm_source=fedi-share if you haven't yet! @technology @opensource #downloader #firefox #browser
📧 Today's fun fact that will be used by no one!
If, in your #gmail or #outlook inbox, you see someone that has a profile picture (usually Google or a brand) and they are not in your contacts, that means they set up BIMI! It's basically a system that puts brand logos in inboxes.
So, being the nerd that I am, I thought to myself "Why not do it myself to look COOL", but it turns out that major email clients only use images in certificate files that cost more than 1000$ per year to get!! I had no idea some features of #email could cost money, let alone this much!
So the next time you see this, know the company/person is spending this much for a few differently colored pixels in your inbox lol
And if you want to do it for free, use @libravatar@photog.social at https://libravatar.org (it's #opensource but not many services support it) or https://gravatar.com (owned by wordpress) with an email client that supports these (like the Auto Profile Picture add-on on #thunderbird )
ChatGPT will now predict your age based on how you interact with it
It seems now #openai is doing age estimation too based on this email I received,
After Google who made the "Age signals API" into Android phones, now OpenAI will "predict your age based on how you interact with our services".
No, I don't want #chatgpt to analyze my age, thank you very much, (I always used the privage chat mode anyways, whatever impact it actually has on the data they use), so I will now switch to an alternative that doesn't do that : https://chat.mistral.ai
Don't misunderstand me, protecting children is a good idea, but if that implies having to be analyzed by an #AI and having your experience change based on that, I'm heavily against it.
Although it's convenient, if it starts analyzing my behaviour as well then I guess it will be a good time to start thinking a bit more on my own and only rely on AI as a last resort solution...

[How to put emojis in your Gitlab username]
Emojis are cool, but most sites like GitLab don't allow you to put emojis in your display name! But I found a way to get around that!
- Delete your Gitlab account (or not if you want to create a new one)
- Create a GitHub account with an username that doesn't exist on Gitlab yet. If you deleted your account, you need to wait for 7 days so you can do that, otherwise the next steps will fail.
- Set the display name on the GitHub account to anything, including emojis.
- Create a new account on Gitlab by connecting your GitHub account. Your name will include the emojis!
Check it for yourself at https://gitlab.com/helloyanis
Is that a lot to do just for emojis? Yes! Did I do it anyways?
You bet!
@YggTorrent@mamot.fr #yggtorrent
Le site yggtorrent a fermé à cause d'un piratage dû au fait qu'il fallait payer pour un mode turbo, voir https://yggleak.top/fr pour plus d'infos
After fiddling around, I found how I can get my own website to show below my posts, instead of the "Mastodon for Android" text, with the link to my site as well! (But I could have set it to anything else).
Check it out by clicking on this post, or "View original page" if you are from another instance!
RE: https://piefed.zip/c/technology/p/1086069/google-criticizes-europe-s-plan-to-adopt-free-software
Well, that shows what #Google really cares about. That's a bit concerning. Hopefully #Europe keeps pushing #opensource #software !
Okay, on GitHub you need to use 2 factor authentication to revoke access of an app to your account, but not to add one? Why? This just seems kinda insecure 🤔
I wonder if, on Mastodon or other social media, it wouldn't be better, for quoted post, to have the person quoting the post to appear below the quoted post instead of above. Currently, you start by reading someone's opinion on something you haven't read yet, and maybe it would help a bit against confirmation bias if you read the actual post they quote first so you can make your own opinion about it!
For example, here I am quoting my previous post, but you probably don't know what I'm talking about until you finish reading this then read the quoted post below! #fediverse #mastodon #uxdesign
