At Bluesky, someone commented that the transgender populace of the u.s. is too small to worry about when considering political actions to oppose the rise of fascism in the united states. People pointed out that the total populace of Jews in Germany just before the rise of the Nazi regime was *less* than the 1% of the u.s. populace that is generally reported to be transgender. They're right. Germany's Jewish populace stood at 0.8% before fascism started its genocide.

I think it's rather hard to get a bigoted person to see the targets of their hatred and prejudice as being fully human and deserving of empathy and equality. I certainly tried with my ex-family and ex-friends from my hometown across the years. But what you can do is increase the social consequences for bigotry and shame and shun them into silence. I don't think we will ever be able to get people like this to relinquish their stubborn cruelty but we can make them afraid to express that cruelty

And lo, the bodies of authority that they placed their faith in turned out to be corrupt and abusive as well. Badly so. New Atheism didn't have a problem with hierarchy and authority, as long as it was their own (cishet) white, male home-brewed varieties. They *only* had a problem with religion.

I like that saying. I can groove with it. But when I say, "No gods, no masters." to myself, I don't mean that I disbelieve in gods. I have no idea if those things really exist or they're purely figments of human imagining. Beats me. And I see that as largely irrelevant. Because what *I* mean by , "No gods, no masters." is that I defy both human and divine authority, regardless of the existence or nonexistence of either. They're both worthless, tyrannical bullshit.

Human authority can go fuck itself and divine authority can go fuck itself. They're both corrupt, self-serving crap.

I frame my take on the saying differently than New Atheism's take a decade ago. It was a common saying in those circles. But the vibe when New Atheists said, "No gods, no masters." was largely, "Gods don't exist, so religion isn't my master." The deeper meaning of rejecting social hierarchy was missing. They were fine with their own accepted bodies of authority and hierarchy. It was just religion's authority they had a problem with.

At this point, I can't tell if this is a product of his dementia riddled skull or a product of his usual bullshit and lies. I think it's telling that both of those things bear a resemblance to each other.

OK, your favorite mythology makes you feel happy and you had a sense of community that came out of your shared mythology. That's great, FOR YOU. But at this point, you're considering shunning and emotionally abusing, perhaps even physically abusing, your child because their life might make you have to compromise your membership in a mythology club. That's what your religion IS. It's a mythology club that happens to make you happy. Your child SHOULD matter more. A HELL of a lot more.

No. You wind up in those levels of power because your values and behaviors fit the nature of the corrupt system that filters out everyone else who does not. Get this through your naive understanding of a world that has been under the thumb of violent, racist, white christians and their malignant political/cultural offshoots for centuries: WWII was NOT a battle against fascism. It was a war of COMPETING fascismS. The rest is pretty merchandising to cover the asses of the versions of fascism that won.

My dad "fought the nazis." He was in the u.s. army in France during WWII. I can run down a list of horrible beliefs of his that puts him in agreement with so much of u.s. fascism in 2026. His antisemitism was just the tip of the iceberg, let me tell you.

There's a good chance that if you're someone who can shrug and look past a particular candidate's or politician's bigotry, you're someone who isn't effected personally by that bigotry and do not have enough integrity to care about the impact of that bigotry. But to put a spin on things, if you're liberal or leftist, you'll feel obligated to paste a fake veneer of caring on your persona while gaslighting people who *are* effected by this bigotry. We call people like you: "A massive asshole."

If your mythology club matters more than your child's life, YOU'RE A SELFISH ASSHOLE. There ARE no ifs, ands or buts here. YOU'RE AND AWFUL PARENT AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED.

To a centrist, fascism is acceptable if it's not overt fascism. They want deniable plausibility. They want clean, sterile state violence. The gay neighbors with two kids who attend their church are fine. As long as they don't overtly break too many rules around white gender conformity and cause a PROBLEM in your circles.

They are patriarchal cultural and political engines of control and abuse born of those very same patterns from antiquity onward. I was a teen during the 1980s and I remember conservatives of the era turning "liberal" into an insulting slur. So, people moved on to using the term "progressive" in its place. I am sitting here 30-some years distant, marveling over how "liberal" has been turned into a slur once again but it's the left that has turned it into a slur because liberals are just a shade or two left of reactionary/conservative and have been fucking over marginalized groups for decades upon decades.

Seeing Dems chase after white working class voters and uplifting and centering white males, as racist patriarchy always has, tells me that they haven't changed much during my lifetime. None of this is new. Both parties chase white male power. It's just that the GOP is far, far better at it.

However, what's somewhat new is that the Dems have learned how to slather a veneer of lefty/progressive packaging on their usual reactionary white male chasing by appealing to the discourse around class politics. But you'll notice that their dialog around classism and the conflict between the wealthy and workers drops short when it comes to POC, women, or immigrants. Dems are (conservative) white male chasers. Always have been. That's who they try to appeal to when you look under the packaging

I think it's an irony befitting of the shitshow that is the united states, where the Harris campaign was racist in the way it distributed campaign funds, snubbing efforts to get out the vote in areas with higher concentrations of POC and concentrating more funding in white suburbs. I think that any Dem who thinks they need to be a right wing, fascist adjacent piece of shit to run for federal office (or otherwise) in this country EARNS their election loss. Every single gods damned time. That's not what the people who are most likely to support a Democratic candidate want. That's not why we vote for your party. If we wanted a fucking Republican, we'd vote for the GOP. So, why do you think it motivates us to support you when you behave like a junior member of the GOP?

The token person of color or two in the PTA or in the lower rungs of your corporate job are OK too. Just as long as it doesn't become a diversity hire situation where you feel that *your* corporate position might be in competition with POC hires.

You can either support the voters who actually *are* your base, or you can lose. And I mostly see establishment Dem politicians who are willing to discard any of us and all of us, if it means they can service reactionary political forces in this country. You deserve to lose.

Don't be surprised when people who might vote for your party just don't bother to vote. You didn't give them a reason to bother when the country is a two party monopoly where both parties promise to shit on would be Dem voters? Hey, lending your support to someone who promises to treat you like garbage is sort of... I dunno... Humiliating? Who the fuck wastes their time doing THAT when their time is already maxed out just trying earn enough to pay rent and not starve?

And now the u.s. is having its ass kicked even harder. Good. Maybe that will keep the mass's war lust at bay for longer. Maybe for a generation at this point? Although, I'm not that optimistic.

The change came because the u.s. military had its ass kicked hard enough for long enough and there was no visible resolution in the offing.
