The lead story broadcast tonight on CBS Evening news? Not the doubling of heating oil prices. Not Rep. Massie's Hegseth impeachment bill. Not follow up on a host of Trump corruption stories, efforts to suppress the vote, or abuses of public edifices like the Kennedy Center. Nope. They're talking about the mistrial of a woman who had a psychotic break and killed her kids. This is Missing White Girl, 2026 edition—the means by which the Ellison-owned CBS avoids covering the failed Trump regime.

@chu@climatejustice.social That's one of the things I change immediately when I get a new machine. I keep bookmarks I store on a flashdrive I move from machine to machine, copying the bookmarks to each machine.

  • National Weather Service local forecast for each locale/area I visit;
  • Drought Monitoring;
  • AirNow air quality for each local/area I visit;
  • Environmental Working Group's tap water page;
  • earth.nullschool.net for global info.

My state has a beach monitoring site but not all beaches have reporting.

Perhaps part of the problem is rhe expectation of employers regarding credentialing. On the other hand, if requirements are narrowed substantially to fit 2-year programs, students may end up without classes like ethics, or exposure to humanities if they're in STEM fields. I'd rather not have those folks leading tech companies.

RE: https://flipboard.com/@huffingtonpost/entertainment-39lhv3j4z/-/a-pKBzwP_rQ6anxt0dnaOM8g%3Aa%3A52948404-%2F0 What a joke - Stephen "Baby Goebbels" Miller already has been shadow president especially on immigration and deployment of DHS and ICE. This can be fixed by voting in a Democratic majority in the House and Senate sufficient to impeach, convict, and remove Trump, or work with JD Vance to apply the 25th Amendment Section 4 -- then Miller can be removed from the White House along with other enabling staff.

Thanks to tax breaks and loopholes, it avoided $13.7B in 2025 federal income taxes. But now it's planning to lay off 10% of its global workforce (8,000 people) by May 20 — with more job cuts later this year. Trickle down hoax.

I was 11 years old and in middle school the first time I heard School's Out. It was literally the last day of school and we were cleaning out our lockers when I think a teacher played this. Didn't think about the sense of relief they probably felt as we yelled and screamed running out the door to freedom.

They were helpful when I was doing research a few years ago on worker-run cooperatives. If you're not in California you'll still have to do research into your state/province's regulations regarding co-ops, but CCCD offers a lot of information from which you can ask better questions. Good luck! https://cccd.coop/

@dangillmor@mastodon.social What's frustrating is that all the signs were there *long before* this slip. Bluesky isn't a nonprofit, it's a PBC — a public benefit corporation — and the intended benefits to the public aren't wholly transparent. It had at least two rounds of financing between Feb 2023 and Nov 2024 from venture capital firms. This was financing, not donations or contributions — it must be returned with interest or ownership, and it's not been clear which. And now Masnick is compromised by this.

@futurebird I think nostalgia can be neutral. Or perhaps I think that what I wish to experience from past is something that never should have been lost to begin with. Fresh air; seasonal changes which aren't extremely volatile; climate as it was a lifetime or two ago rather than what we experience now; ecosystems filled with diverse lifeforms which have become scarce or extinct -- all of this is what I want but I don't think of this as nostalgia but a combination of loss, anger, and desire.
