Fedora Project
mastodon 4.7.3This is the official feed for the Fedora Project, a global free & open source software community sponsored by Red Hat.
We make Fedora Linux - an innovative free & open source operating system for computers, clouds, containers, and other hardware platforms.
We are now officially using @forgejo@floss.social! The Fedora Forge is ready for contributors to start migrating to. Cutoff for switching from Pagure is by Flock to Fedora 2026.
New chapter :)

Getting a package into Fedora takes more than writing a spec file, and Jakub Kadlčík has spent a decade figuring out exactly where the friction is.
As a Copr developer and maintainer, Jakub has been building tools to fix the parts of Fedora packaging that frustrate contributors. Join us as we learn how Jakub:
- Introduced automated CI to the package review queue
- Made a sponsor-finder tool for new contributors
- Thinks we should move to @forgejo@floss.social
Sometimes the easiest option to install Fedora is to start clean and wipe away everything in your storage. Other times you want to install Fedora in an NVMe drive and keep third party apps on the hard disk that came with your laptop.
How to choose? The fun one of course!

🎙️ New episode of the Fedora Podcast is out!
We sat down with two of the three 2026 Fedora Contributor Recognition Program winners -- Justin Forbes and Ankur Sinha -- to talk about the work that earned them recognition and what keeps them showing up for Fedora year after year.
Congrats also to Fabio Valentini, the third winner, who we hope to have on a future episode!

Windows 10 support ends on October 14.
Help the people around you continue to be protected by helping them switch to Linux. They don't need to go buy a new computer just because Microsoft made a decision for them.

What is the latest on a potential Fedora Verified program for contributing to the project? Here are the results from the survey we did a few weeks ago.
Long story short, the community wants to make sure we value code and non-code contributions, make it easy for new people to join, not be strict when someone stops being "verified", and more.
The Fedora Council is taking all of this in as it considers next steps for this program. Thank you for your feedback!

Help us test Fedora CoreOS 44! Test Days will be running from today Mar 24 to Mar 27, and the FCOS and Quality team will be available to help you troubleshoot. :)

What does bootc look like when it's actually running in production, not just in a lab? James Harmison joins the Fedora Podcast to talk about building custom bootc images across wildly different contexts: NVIDIA drivers, AGX Orin hardware with custom kernel RPMs, replacing RHCOS images in OpenShift, and even a stripped-down SteamOS-style couch gaming rig.

What is open source? What is the free software movement?
We make take these ideas for granted, but Fedora Community Architect Justin Wheeler took time to explain what this is all about to our @outreachy@hachyderm.io applicants. :)
TLS and SSH rely on Certificate Authorities (CAs) for authentication, but they also present a vector for Man in the Middle attacks. What if you could set up your own CA to reduce your exposure?

RE: @maxamillion@fosstodon.org
Super grateful for the investment and involvement that Microsoft has made in open source, and in the Fedora Project specifically. They're joining the project just as other contributors would and becoming part of our community!
Some of their impact so far:
* Modernizing Fedora Cloud image delivery
* Enabling Secure Boot on ARM
* Improving Fedora compatibility with Azure
* Fedora on WSL
There's even talk of having Azure Linux treat Fedora more like an upstream!
The Fedora Podcast returns with a look at the upcoming Flock to Fedora conference! Join Emma and Justin and our hosts as we talk about the history, the location, and some hidden Easter eggs to look forward to at our annual contributor conference!
Vojtux - Accessible Linux distro which is almost pure Fedora
Vojtěch Polášek has put together a technical preview of a version of Fedora that should work well for blind or visually impaired users. While his goal is explicitly to see these improvements and changes become part of Fedora itself, for now you can use this implementation based on the Fedora MATE spin. :)
Visit the Fedora booth at @fosdem@fosstodon.org in building H! We'll be super happy to see you!
We will also be part of the Distributions DevRoom on Sunday, and be on the look out for office hours with different teams with the Fedora Project.
Have fun!
We will be having Fedora Hatch at @socallinuxexpo@social.linux.pizza this year! On Friday, March 6, join us for our dedicated track!
What are we talking about?
* Getting started in open source
* @centos@fosstodon.org and Fedora collaboration
* RPM packaging workshop
* And more!
Grateful to Akashdeep for representing Fedora at FOSSASIA this year! Sounds like there were some really productive conversations. :)

Bootc as a project is one with tons of promise and lots of community support. It's what is powering the next generation of Atomic Desktops, CoreOS, and Fedora IoT, not to mention all of the work that @UniversalBlue@fosstodon.org has done to show off everything that can be done today.
If you want to follow bootc more closely, regular updates from Fedora's end are shared here. :)
