Ah yes, it's sysadmin appreciation day. Two of my team are on vacation, one has fscked off and gone kayaking, and since nobody brought us cookies I bought my own and am having a lunch break. 👍

These are fir needles on a tarp. In the current drought perfectly healthy (so far at least!) fir trees are shedding needles which rain down on you with every wind gust through the tree tops. Some amount of this is normal in summer but this year the volume is astounding.
We could really really use some rain. Actually, make that a LOT.

Had my company car in for service today and got a chance for a test drive in this. It's a BYD Sealion coupé-SUV. Holy smokes. Even the low end-version (which this is) already comes with 200kW/320HP, 450km range, and some really nice extras and doodads.
Pretty damn impressive, especially considering the price.

Simple, heavy, mechanical objects. If it moves when it shouldn't, hit it with the hammer. If it should move but doesn't or squeaks, add some oil and then hit it with the hammer. When all is well put a horse in front of it.

Last vacation day today. It's 🥵 so the forest was the best place to be.

Someone asked recently if you could tie tomatoes to sticks for support. The answer is yes, you can. Depending on your plants you're going to need a lot of them though, and long ones at that. And you will be adding a lot of wire bits as they continue to grow.
I've been doing this for years. When the plants die off in winter I pull the sticks and store them for next year. The wire bits go into a large plastic bowl, also to be reused.
Wire cages are probably less work.

As expected, the guys who invested a few million tokens for a handful of Linux and BSD vulnerabilities have retrained their guns onto more juicy targets - the festering pile of 30 years of decomposing software layers oozing out of Redmond.

Today was 50% grinding through IEC 62443- 4-1 with a colleague and 50% alone time doing shell script development. No stupid meetings as most people are on vacation. Not bad.
I've always maintained I'm not a dev but I have to say I lately quite enjoy this type of focused problem solving.
The damn slugs ate all four of my small cucumber plants in a single night. Gloves are coming off. Whatever happens from now on is on them. 👹

As far as I'm aware Blaukraft was the Blaukraft GmbH until 2014, whereas Blaucraft is merely a brand owned by IPA GmbH, and their CEO is Pawel Iwkin. They also own Titan Tools, another manufacturer-come-brand.

I hate SMB with a passion.
For backups I think I'd prefer Borg, especially when backing up to a remote target that may not be entirely under my control. I used to do rsync with hard links for a long while but switched to all-Borg a couple of years ago.
There are also nice graphical frontends which are great when cherry-licking few from backup sets. Like Pika for Gnome for example.

The top of the line SL7 sells for 42k after rebates, which is 15k less than VW's ID.5. But it has almost twice the power and a lot of stuff included VW doesn't even offer, like in-seat a/c, a very plush interior, and a sunroof.
And that's only BYD. Also crowding into the market are Zeekr, Xiaomi, Leapmotor, the new Smart, and several BYD or Geely sub-brands like Denza.
The VW EVs are nice, but this is going to be tough.
