@cwebber I don't understand being the lead of a project, ostensibly understanding most of the code and its history, and slopping it up into an AI translation that you don't know at all. Yes, please turn my carefully handcrafted artifact into a pile of legacy code, at scale.
How to find new and exciting commands in Emacs:
- press the ctrl key
- put the rest of your fingers just off the home position
- type your normal commands
- M-x view-lossage
Tag yourself.

People with electric cars, what's the maintenance dynamic like? I assume "standard" things like brake pads can be changed by any random mechanic, but how about the rest?

@dthompson@toot.cat all the furniture in the world was sent to a woodchipper and LLM output is MDF made from that.

@bicivoladora las cacas que dejaba el perro de mi vecino enfrente de mi puerta, porque lo dejaba salir a cagar sin correa ni nada, desaparecieron cuando las empecé a embolsar y las llevé a la puerta del vecino.

@jonny Sigh. They quote Mickens as from a totally serious, authoritative source, when what he writes is (delightful) satire. They use "hallucinations" as if talking of a completely genuine, inevitable quirk of their system, preventable by the use of an actually deterministic, focused tool like memory sanitizers. They repurpose "Given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow" (an already-disproven quip) to equating their tool to intentional eyeballs.

@swick Most of these bugs smell similar to "my first file manager" kind of code. I guess everyone has to learn by screwing up :)

@mhoye@cosocial.ca Yikes! Does this affect Android, as in any random app could get root?

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io For when you go to CDMX, may I suggest El Habanerito, at Frontera 177 (reachable by metrobus). It's a tiny yucatecan fonda, and it's GREAT. I think you'll appreciate the salsa sampler that they put on every table.

@aphyr And finally, some acceptance that the audience won't be able to absorb in 30-60 minutes however many tens of years it has taken me to be able to learn this. Like, how can I make you passionate about this particular intricate niche problem or at least some of the tangents which I hope you, with more time, can explore better than I.

@ebassi@mastodon.social @slomo@toot.cat A guy with a dapper hat and checkered trousers casually puffs on his pipe. Extracts a golf ball from his pocket with well-practiced mannerisms, and holds it between two fingers while the other two hold a tee. He places them carefully upon each other on the manicured lawn. Prepares to putt, in perfect form, puffs on his pipe once more. The putting iron barely touches the ball. Camera quickly pans out, and we see a nuclear explosion.

@gemelen@mammut.moe @mhoye@cosocial.ca I should really research this myself, but one thing I didn't catch is whether they use /usr/bin/su because it already has a setuid bit, and they just overwrite its pages with basically something that execs a shell - or if the new binary actually has an exploit inside that gives it root.

@tragivictoria@mastodon.com.pl ah, yeah, I have no idea if it's intentional. Ask the designers or admins?

@deviantollam@defcon.social @j_angliss@fosstodon.org if you look for edupuertas on youtube, he may know someone who can do it. He does CNC machining for the small, repetitive pieces of stop-motion armatures.

Does flatpak have machinery to limit the amount of memory an app can request?
(Ill-formed question, I know, but I just had to kill a runaway Firefox flatpak and it would be nice to limit it to, say, N GB of RSS or something.)
